An average Glengoyne from the 1980's.
    • Nose
Fruity sweetness with a metalic edge (OBE?). Melon and some pear. Maltiness. Grassy.
    • Taste
Spirity (strange for a 40%) and raw. Pineapple and orange marmelade at the background. oaky and nutiness. Flowery notes as well. Again this 'metalic' character.
    • Finish
Medium long. Spices of pepper. Ginger. Toffee. Quite bitter.

Still very good for an entry level bottling.
    • Nose
A very nice, soft nose. Mildly sherried at first. Then some rather overripe fruit which i would associate with Bourbon casks. Honeydew melon and banana mostly but also some rather typical apples (red). Then again some mild Sherry. Slightly winey, some raisins for sure.
    • Taste
Quite thick at first, all on honey. Not bad but then quite a bit of sourness creeps in. Bitter coffee. A little drying. I had thought this would be soft but it is quite bold and a little unbalanced, even if the bitterness is not offensive. The arrival is the best part. Goes a little downhill from there.
    • Finish
Fairly long and spirity. Slightly brandy-ish. The aftertaste lingers for quite a while. Slightly sherried and musty.

I am a Glengoyne lover and even these standard old bottles are good introduction to the distillery. A clean, light style.
    • Nose
The nose is very honeyed mixed in with a bit of wood varnish and polish. Hints of toffee and banana.
    • Taste
Pleasant and quite fizzy on the tongue. I gets lemon sherbet sweet, toffee and some gooseberry notes.
    • Finish
Not quite medium length but refined on caramel notes.
