Whisky Reviews for Glen Grant 21-year-old

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.76 points

  1. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

I am sensitive to bitter notes, but as long as it is more towards noble dark chocolate, or not dead, but beautifully living oak, everything is good, but here you really have these light apple core / hydrogen cyanide notes, which rob you of at least 2 points in total . Otherwise a perfect Glen Grant representative.
    • Nose
Ah, there is almost no more Grant in the aroma, pure apple, apple juice, apple peel, great blossom honey behind it, cinnamon, vanilla, grandma’s apple cake, fresh grass, rose water, camphor, candied ginger, sweet malt, fresh peach
    • Taste
Here, too, initially unsurprisingly, mega apple front, apple peel, pulp, but unfortunately also apple core slightly with slight off-bitterness, crunchy malt, herbal honey, nutmeg, ginger, milk chocolate, white pepper, not super complex, grasses, brown bread
    • Finish
Unfortunately, more apple core, that not-beautiful oak bitter note, hoppy, at the very end almost like a bitterest pilsner, larger, lemongrass, green apple, ginger, medium to long

  2. LDB scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Great matured drop with a mild, smoky, fruity character from bygone times.

Old suitcase, ripe pineapple, ball-bearing grease, oiled antique furniture, old leather couch, finely interwoven with honeycombs with all the almost springbank-like aromas that still have a mild calvados-like apple note as the Glen Grant signature. Elegant throughout.
    • Taste
      90 90
Silky-smooth and suddenly a deja-vu: tastes a bit like the best old Laphi 15 with wonderful tropical fruits and a very delicate smoky note. Quite a bit surprising at first, but very tasty. Spicy and old-fruity honey notes carry the whole thing back to Speyside.
    • Finish
      88 88
Well, the strength is dwindling, but the great, harmonious OBF nose feeling remains for a long time when chewed with age-old flavoring.

  3. Monte Gehro scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Great old school malt, has depth, flavor, elegance, sweetness. In addition, some slightly musty dust, which I would call the Old Bottle Flavor.

Tried it recently. Giant cork stopper, one of the apparent reasons you probably won't come across an unopened version with much juice remaining in the large neck.
Mine had been open for quite a while, but the unusual and much appreciated higher abv helps a lot to preserve the Glen Grant at low levels where 40%ers start to disintegrate. Mine was also very cloudy but did not taste tainted, so I suppose it's from the preserved wood oils which'd coincide with the higher abv and less restrictive filtering.
Taste-wise a very grand old bottling @21 years of age. Elegant, pretty sweet and lo and behold, maracuja galore!
    If at 200/250 EUR I'd get a bottle, but 500 I just can't spare.
But is it worth 500/600 EUR? Let me put it this way, there's much worse out there nowadays with a matching or higher price tag. ....Buuuut, if I had the money I'd rather go for a rocket fuel Talisker 25 cs from 2007 instead, I suppose. :-)

  5. QuarterCentury did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

A 21-year-old whisky bottled by Glen Grant from their exclusive

Director`s Reserve - the whiskies specially set aside for the Directors

    and occasionally selected for bottling.
