Whisky Reviews for Balblair 1966 DL

1 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.74 points

  1. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

The nose was a 94, the bitter notes pulled him down a bit for me, but he is still an absolute top-notch and the exciting finish has upgraded again.
    • Nose
Old moth, greasy buttery nose as you can only find from this period up to the early 70s, nut oil, pickled cherries, apricot jam, full plums, plum mustard, dark toffee, honey, roasted almonds, vanilla, cinnamon, milk chocolate, camphor, saffron, oiled leather later and fresh coffee
    • Taste
Phew, more oak and coffee beans than you would expect from the nose, plum with core and raisins, liquorice, walnut oil, old leather, mahogany cupboard, saffron, anise, nutmeg and dark chocolate
    • Finish
It gets exciting here, suddenly salt is added, reminiscent of the bitter chocolates sprinkled with salt flakes at fine chocolatiers, fresh green and red apples suddenly come out of nowhere, a hint of mint
