Harmonious and balanced, but especially not only in the nose and very complex. Seems incredibly familiar to me.

    Notes from a blind tasting.

Okay, I know him and this successful combination of old and younger notes has also shown here. A successful experiment was that time. Actually, it takes much more time than I have just given him. One that I would really like to try in barrel size. Thinning has certainly lost a lot.
    • Nose

Incredibly strong right at the beginning with overripe fruit and chalk. Some life time adds a lot of salt, a touch of chocolate and sweat, with a bit of menthol. Pears and cardboard box. Heated, honey is added and the box of kitchen herbs is opened, lovage, marjoram, tarragon, the sweetness disappears completely.
    • Taste
      90 90
Mild approach with honey and chocolate, a little time-delayed comes black pepper while tapping the tannins on the back of the palate. In the second sip clearly tanned, but still in full balance. Dark chocolate, back coffee now with a clear acidity.
    • Finish
      91 91
He goes very slowly with some licorice but mainly chocolate and a few herbs. Warms up for a long time. In the second sip, the acidity on the palate is quite long.

    • Nose

very fruity, tasty nose, sun-ripened cantaloupe melon, yellow kiwi, gooseberries, lime with cane sugar, fresh mint, lemon balm, birch sap, coconut cream, Turkish delight, carambola, green cucumber freshly cut, flowering mountain herb meadow (sage, thyme, rosemary)
    • Taste
      91 91
very creamy noble oak (rather young and light wood) coconut cream with mild sweetness, citrus mint, crystalline flowers - now comes here also this very delicious fruity melon, green banana, pineapple yogurt, ever chewable, pulsating fruity always on the move, extremely yummy
    • Finish
      91 91
very round and cultivated - caramelised oak, biscuits with vanilla, juice from green bark, delicate waxy note, some sweet wood, salt liquorice - very long if tender at the end.

    Blindtasting.

    Balanced and very diverse.
    • Nose

At the beginning fine, almost discreet. Then you will find tropical fruits, mango, peach. Herbs (which I can not name exactly) are in honey. Fresh and menthol again and again.
Deep in the background, oak chips, as I often find them in old (over 20y) bourbon barrel aged malts.
    • Taste
      89 89
First sweet, then peppery on the tongue. Honey again and the tropical fruits. After some time in the mouth, the tannins on the tongue and on the palate come out.
    • Finish
      89 89
Good medium length. Warming slightly, again with honey, later with dark chocolate and espresso and tannins.

Wow, a surprisingly complex and voluminoese malt.
    • Nose
Fine, summer-sweet and exotic-fruity. Mango, peach, apple, pear, orange ... a whole bowl of fruit. Including fresh meadow flowers and malt sugar. In the background some oak and spices as well as a hint of ginger and blood orange as well as vanilla.
A great nose, which gains in complexity with time.
    • Taste
A deliciously sweet fruit smoothie, citrus fruit, peach, orange in honey glaze. Also some ginger and salmiak, caramel and vanilla. Followed by malt, oak and a touch of coffee.
    • Finish
Long with salmiak, dark chocolate with orange, malt and little oak. Warm and pleasant.

I am very happy to have had it in my glass again in an online blind tasting.
    • Nose
      Color:
      Rich gold

      Nose:
Very waxy start. Then immediately a subtle acrylic note. Williams Christ pear and damp wood. A sour white wine note. Always has a sour floral effect.
With a little time in the glass more coniferous wood and light essential oils.
With even more service life, the colleague develops sweeter again. Vanilla, caramel and candied apple. I mean to smell a trace of smoke. In addition, discreetly maritime. Is very interesting.
    • Taste
First soft, then stronger with tropical flavors. In addition, the alcohol pushes something. A pinch of salt and again the spark of smoke. Pleasant oiliness.
With the second sip, more pepper and now also significantly more mineral. Some tart herbs and more dried fruit here at the moment.
    • Finish
medium length Nicely balanced with a lot of smoke.

    • Nose
      90 90
Extremely well balanced but also somewhat understated on the nose (or perhaps my sample has already lost a bit of power). If you take your time with it, you're rewarded by a veritable fruit salad that is framed in equal measure by mellow, spicy/herbal oak tones and creamy vanilla custard aroma. After a while, I'm left to wonder if there's a whiff of peat in here as well. Extremely complex, even though you'd like a few extra percentage points to give everything more definition.
    • Taste
      92 92
The older components are undeniable on the palate, bringing along a cavalcade of exotic fruits and the signature oaky/smoky backdrop only seen in 30-and-older malts. Really, really good.
    • Finish
      90 90
Charcoal, multi-fruit-juice, and creamy, mellow old oak.

Brute good nose. Super balanced on the palate. Unfortunately, that certain something is missing and of course a few percent.
    • Nose
      90 90
Great nose. Wide fruit load. Apple pear. Thorn or currant. Then drifting a little into the tropical. Looks very broad, with honey in the background.
    • Taste
      88 88
very creamy. old school flavor. very round, everything very finely woven. Here fruit, sweetness, tartness and sharpness are the perfect balance. I'm missing some punch though.
    • Finish
      87 87
      Grapefruit, citrus. creamy, slightly tart.

Water: no, it is perfectly balanced at 46%

Conclusion: Multivintage at it's very best. The thing is simply a cracker, here everything that makes up tomatin is combined, plus an extremely successful balance between old, venerable barrels that bring maturity and complexity and young malts that keep the whisky alive without taking away from its mature complexity . This is how whisky has to be! Give it time and you will be rewarded with a perfectly balanced malt.
    • Nose
      91 91
slightly buttery, exotic fruits, passion fruit, apricot, slightly nutty, creamy, oak notes, but not too strong, lively, vanilla, melon, coconut cream, lemon balm, honey, marjoram, lovage, pear, some orange zest, grapefruit ... hear the impressions not at all.
    • Taste
      91 91
easy start, but quickly becomes oily and full, lots of flavors dance on the tongue, dried fruit, apricot, oranges, spicy oak, vanilla, butter, biscuit dough, grated coconut
    • Finish
      90 90
long, very long, brilliant combination of dried apricots, oak notes, vanilla, seasoning, cereals, a little sherry
