I just drank Kilchoman after a 12-year-old Oloroso single-barrel and it's really obvious how Kilchoman has developed over the years. Of course it is interesting to try something from the beginning, but unfortunately it is not really delicious.
    • Nose
Wow is fresh in the nose, the youth also flows towards something, heavy citrus notes, almost a bit of direction Klostein, very little smoke for Kilchoman, even compared to later 100% Islay, vanilla, pear, like such a fruit yoghurt, slight acidity. also a sweet tone, honey, with a little bit of air it gets better, the stinging citrus note goes away, somehow I have to think of a summery dessert, malt, bit by bit the smoke can be better integrated into the overall impression, some pepper
After the first sip of creamy, yellow, vanilla pudding
    • Taste
relatively watery, sweet, honey, some smoke, spiciness, malt, pepper, cinnamon, lemon peel, slightly floral, like a fragrance oil, a little bitter oak
    • Finish
relatively short, here also vanilla, sour, fruit bowl, again quite little smoke, pear, really after pear juice

Bitter notes and soap are the only reason why I don't give more points. For a quasi-new make, this is surprisingly delicious. It doesn't have to hide his youth at all, if you know what you have here, that's perfectly fine.

    • Taste

very sweet, leather, bitter, pepper, bitten grape seeds
    • Finish

Great composition made from pure Islay ingredients

  7. rottendon scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

It's hard for me to rate that. So the Inaugural is for me too much Wechselbad the feelings. The pear Helene in the finish I think great, the bizzeln metal bothers. For a 3-year-old he has too little smoke for me. Citrus dominates the nose. But the muffin at the first sip was totally good. Notes from an online chat tasting.
    • Nose
inaugural so. Definitely the youngest, citrus, citrus, citrus. Very light smoke and some citrus. Now comes cowshed. Some artificial chewy sweets., Quite a cow shed, leather? and again something artificial. Either the alcohol is perfectly integrated or the olfactory fatigue beats now completely ... Vanilla I have now clearly in the nose. Smells a bit after the dentist.
The empty glasses are also interesting, the vintage with bacon notes, the 2007er significantly stronger, and the Inaugural somehow disgusting, smoked bacon with ammonia.
    • Taste
In the mouth again lemon, a little sweet and again this ingenious sour muff of the 2007er. I like it.
Throw in another: Limoncello! I do not know, limoncellos I have drunk many in Italy, but I really do not find the comparison in my memory. I usually remember limoncello quite creamy. In the mouth it is clearly sweet, somewhat licorice, harmonious.
    • Finish
      Pear Helene with metallic bizzeln.

  8. recursiewhisky scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

This whisky is more than worth its money. Every time you discover new scents and aromas. He will really have to come into my collection.
    • Nose
Complex medicinal tones, campfire on the beach, Then follow the fresh notes of rhubarb, custard, fennel, raisins. Followed by sweet notes of honey and flowers.
    • Taste
A true taste explosion in your mouth of smoky, medicinal and salty aromas. All this is followed by sweet vanilla, raisins, blossom, butterscotch, biscuit. Beautiful maritime tones with spicy flavors of laurel and licorice, for example. Tar shampoo. What a beautifully balanced whisky!
    • Finish
A long warm aftertaste, much more complex and deeper than you would expect for a whisky that is so young.

  9. megabreit scored this whisky 83 points Expert Junior

A youthful fresher paints that already has a lot of complex notes to offer. Since one is already looking forward to the following older bottlings.
    • Nose
Smoke is present immediately, followed by lemon thyme and a slightly yeasty note of fresh bread
    • Taste
Sweet and chocolaty, then again smoke and a young fresh note of fruit
    • Finish
long and warm, astringent smoky notes dominate without completely losing the sweet fruit notes

  10. Cicero did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    a bit one-sided smoky
    a bit (too) young
    smoky grappa
no comparison to the great vintage bottlings
    • Nose
      heavily smoky
      Vanilla, lemon
but unfortunately also a bit young
      Obstler / Grappa
becoming sweeter with time, but the grappa note remains
      Bunch of flowers
    • Taste
      a lot of smoke
      Salivation begins immediately
      very sweet, apricot?
      generally works but quite young
    • Finish
Smoke and a lot of sweetness

  11. ASWhisky scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

the best thing about him is in the finish
the inaugural does not have to be ... inconsistent, young, interesting, but not tasty, immature
does not make me nervous but okay
    • Nose
Alcohol notes, young apricots, barley, phenolic smoke, light peat notes, a little bit bready, lemon quite clear,
    • Taste
Schnapps note, which is lost in the mouth, pear schnapps,
then comes chocolate, pears, sweet, smoke, some malt
    • Finish
medium relatively flat chocolate, pears, becoming sweeter towards the end

  13. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Interesting. The whisky has the right strength and brings some young flavors, but not quite convincing.
    • Nose
Young, fruity, artificial sweetness, gummy bears, new make, lemon jelly, very strong, but only slightly smoky. A little cowshed in the background.
    • Taste
there he is the peat, but first limoncello and cheap apple nectar, some cinnamon and some ashes
    • Finish
peaty, smoky, some ashes, menthol, a distinct sweetness sticks to the palate.

  14. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    official bottling note:
    Colour: light golden
Nose: soft peaty aromas and a blend of citrus, lemon and pear drops
Palate: an initial sweetness is followed by soft peat smoke and the mixed fruits
Finish: long and clean, you would never guess it was only 3 years old

this pale fellow beats Machir Bay on the left!
    • Nose
Räuchlein, spray of sea waves, lemons, pears, everything slightly lively

everything above goes seamlessly on the tongue
    • Finish
and an explosion of smoky peat fire develops without the fruity components being lost

  19. Ivynor scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

A good kilchoman, but you must love the notes of cinnamon and the waxy texture in the mouth.
    • Nose
The entrance is surprising and recalls the Auchentochan Vallinch with lots of cinnamon, alcohol and wood. Maybe a "Linzertorte" effect
    • Taste
The mouth is thick, on spices (still cinnamon, but less than on the nose), wax, syrup for cough, plants, sugar.
    • Finish
      Soft, waxy. A bit short.

  20. Edwin de Lange scored this whisky 94 points Expert Senior

As expected of Kilchoman, this is a great dram, nice peaty, straightforward, clear and lots of taste. A real Islay style.

Tasting Notes by Dave Broom for Whisky AdvocateThe

only Islay distillery not on the coast - and the most westerly on the

island - Kilchoman is reviving the tradition of farm distilling, and

this limited edition release uses locally grown Optic barley malted at

the distillery. Very creamy, with some stewed apple, green banana, and

(when diluted) sponge cake mix. The smoke develops on the palate, adding

an earthy note. Rich, with some clove and licorice on the finish. Well

    worth a look. 87 Points

  22. Malt Hans scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Smoky and malty aroma, heather honey,

cinnamon, ripe melon, lapsang souchong, sweet mustard and vanilla.

Medium sweet taste, anise, pepper, cardamom, floral honey, coconut, ripe

grapefruit and sweet oat porridge. Long, smoky and herbal end.

  23. hsmithjr scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

This one is more complex than some of the other Kilchomans I have tried.  Obvious Bourbon cask notes. Nice!
    • Nose
Sweet and gentle peat.  Lemon custard.  Fresh coconut.  Vanilla fudge.  Seaweed salad.  Complex.
    • Taste
Soft peat with pears.  More peat, this time with vanilla.  Spicy oak. Butterscotch pudding.  Raw oysters.  Country biscuit dough. Sweet lemon meringue pie. Somewhat oily.
    • Finish
Medium length.  Sweet, smoky, peaty, and spicy (mixed white and black pepper). More obvious vanilla.

  24. Willie JJ scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

I initially tried the cask strength version of this and was not impressed but this is just coming across as good solid Islay malt.
    • Nose
Gently smoky and nutty with a splash of lemon.
    • Taste
Subtle salty shellfish and lemon juice with a malty hit later on.
    • Finish
Big salty hit drifting into warm sandy beach.

  25. mmaclean did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

"A first for Kilchoman - a whisky distilled and matured on Islay as

usual, but also only using grain grown on the island. It`s only a 3 year

old but has a lot to it, as we`ve come to expect from Kilchoman."

      Sweeter. Lemon, apples. Medium long.

  28. Roman scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Unfortunately, this Kilchoman does not have much to offer. Too bad. There were a lot better ones. But my prognosis is anyway from 10 years there are mega fabrics from Kilchoman!
    • Nose
he smells like a newmake, quite sprightly
    • Taste
he is young, you can tell, very peaty-grainy, something s
    • Finish
      medium and unspectacular
