The Scapa 16 years - a good Orcadian Malt; with 40% maybe a little weak on the chest!
    • Nose
      light, mild, sweet (honey), fruity (apples), malt;
    • Taste
      first fruity (apples, pears), then spicy (pepper, ginger, oak), oily, creamy, slightly dry;
    • Finish
      a long, oily finish, in the aftermath salty note;

It used to be a nice and inexpensive summer whisky. I took it with me at the beverage store in 2016 for € 52. He has a lovely, pleasant and quite complex nose. But due to the low drinking strength (40%) and the rather sharp alcohol note in the mouth, it would be difficult for me to spend more than 60 € for this bottle. The bottle and packaging design, however, is really well done. A real eye-catcher! I can barely remember the old 14 year old, but the 16 year old definitely beats the newer NAS bottlings.

Very complex and pleasant nose. Acacia honey, orange, vanilla, sweet milk rolls, fresh, sour fruit such as apples, pears, slightly unripe plums and light grapes, some pineapple and ginger. Hand-warm it becomes even more pleasing with a decent barrel seasoning (American white oak), fresh grass, a little lemon and lavender.
    • Taste
      84 84
For 40% surprisingly alcoholic, also quite watery - but otherwise very nice. Honey, apricot, marzipan, vanilla, delicate bitterness, a little lemon, strawberry, milk chocolate and shortbread.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium-long finish. Vanilla, light sherry aromas, walnuts and strawberries are left behind. Delicate and pleasant.

Part of a scapa tasting that included 9 scapas... yes we managed to find 9. This one was the weakest to me; although it’s nothing bad. It has good flavours, they are all just weakly delivered. Probably a good introductory malt.
    • Nose
      80 80
      Pear, white pepper, brine, wool
    • Taste
      81 81
Pretty nice mouthfeel on soft wax, soft pepper, heather, a little salt
    • Finish
      82 82
Salty, lemon zest, cold ash, pear.

    • Nose
Delicate, solid, initially closed, gradually opening up. Floral motifs, malt, rain freshness, light fragrance, cotton candy, dried condensed milk, vanilla, freshly sawn board, wet cardboard, ascorbic acid, dry grass, barely noticeable mineral notes, sweet pastries. 23
    • Taste
Medium, moderately sweet. Oak tannins, black pepper, mineral water, pastry dough, fresh fruit - red apples, apricot, barely noticeable sulfur content, sugar syrup, crumb of gray bread, a little salt. Toward the end of the dram from somewhere there is a very light smoke. 22
    • Finish
Short, smoothly fading, tannin, mineral. nineteen
Very interesting nose, pleasant taste and almost disappointing finish. At the same time whisky is very light and drinkable. Balance - 22.

Wonderfully soft and well-balanced dram, but as so many others mentioned, on the skimpy side at 40% ABV
    • Nose
Very light and fresh, some apple, honey, wax, hints of dried fruit (abricot, guave?)
    • Taste
A little marzipan, apple cider, some citrus in the back. A little waxy mouthfeel
    • Finish
Slightly spicy, bitter (nuts), a bit of caramel.

  20. Ivynor scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

OK but much too expensive (and much too small)
    • Nose
Young wood (gives a bourbon effect), green apple, vanilla, caramel tip
    • Taste
It's better than in the nose: sugar, honey, green apple, traces of pear, vanilla. The bottle speaks of wild heather? Maybe .. or some kind of honey all medium flower range ... Nothing very fresh and fragrant.
    • Finish
Long enough, on honey, wood, a few plants and citrus fruits.

    • Finish
average finish, nuts, apricot, vanilla again, pepper, oak

  23. Edwin de Lange scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

    A Great Orkney Expression!

  24. Dede scored this whisky 81 points Expert Senior

Not unpleasant, but frankly too small.
    • Nose
Light, sweet, mixed fruit from the orchard (pear, apple, apricot), citrus fruits (orange, lemon) and honey. Simple, but pleasant.
    • Taste
It's light !!! And what is often terrible in these malts reduced to 40% is that we still feel the alcohol, the taste of alcohol, if I make myself understood. Otherwise, we stay in the line of the nose, more vegetal. Herbal notes and fruit mixed with tangy notes that pleasantly titillate the palate. Salt recalls its ilian origins.
    • Finish
Medium length, slightly fruity and salty.

  25. FedeBosco scored this whisky 82 points Member Senior

A pleasant and well-balanced scotch with no particularity, simple and with a beautiful packaging, from the box to the bottle.
    • Nose
Little alcohol, there is a strong sweet honey note (millefiori but perhaps even sweeter).
    • Taste
Quite dry though sweet, notes of honey and toasted peanuts.
    • Finish
Not much prolonged but pleasant sweet and with a note of burning of toasted peanuts, absent the smoke.

  26. drkrylov scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

A well balanced and characterful dram.
    • Nose
Perfumy.Floral and nutty. Tangerine. Fruit toffee. Hint of popcorn.
    • Taste
Smooth at first. With a good spicy dryness carrying along. Toffee again.
    • Finish
Dry, spicy but not hot. Lingers nicely. Brazil nuts.
