Whisky Reviews for Bowmore 1995 CWC

Peat and PX, a really great combination! The dominant perfume note disturbs me olfactory on this Bowmore, the taste of the malt is convincing in all respects! Smoky peat, sticky sweet PX with dried grapes and berries, just my thing!

    • Nose
Cloudy orange rests in the Premium Snifter, oily and greasy "legs" adhere to the glass wall. Minimally peat and smoke rise fruity from the glass, bewitchingly sweet grapes and berries come into their own. Maritime notes are released from the dominant sweetness, salty algae and floral elements emerge. Suddenly there is an incredibly dominant hint of hissing in the air, the nose looks extremely perfumed. Fortunately, the sweet fruit note takes up a lot of volume afterwards and at least covers up the soapy perfume note.
    • Taste
The first sip flows gently through the palate. Spicy oak and minimally smoky peat immediately take command with the sweet berries, here and there the scented soap note flashes through the bewitching and fruity sweetness. The peat volume increases, as do the smoky elements. Slightly greasy tobacco and hints of leather come into their own, the unbelievable PX sweetness cannot mask the maritime and smoky peaty elements. Salt and black pepper suddenly stick to the tongue and heat it up properly. The different flavors harmonize perfectly with each other, caramelized sugar and hazelnuts have an earthy and peaty finish.
    • Finish
Smoky peat and sticky sweetness on the palate rest comfortably warm, brine dissolves from spicy wood. Tobacco and leather are minimal, as are hazelnuts and dried berries. The aftertaste fades away creamy and greasy and leaves a satisfied grin on my face ...

Loved this Bowmore and one of the first bottles I bought from the CWC. More would follow after this one :)
    • Nose
The PX sherry is very evident on the nose. Lots of plums, raisins, some strawberries and cherries. You have to like your islay to be sweet. The smoke is on the background, but serves a role nonetheless. A little salt from liquorice.
    • Taste
Quite nice intergration of the peat and sherry. Always a bit worried with these finishes that it isn't. Thick sweet dates, brown sugar and cigarboxes or Tobacco. Smoked chocolate nuts.
    • Finish
Continues on the sweet velvet layers of the px sherry en lingering smoke.
