  1. Mapl scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Unpleasantly minerally astringent, extremely young unripe Caol Ila citrus notes; cold smoke, iodine, out of round.

The malt didn't get much from the barrel, which was to be expected given the light color (my sample looks much lighter than the marketing photos). If you want a lot of distillery character from nose to finish, this is the place for you. Just why you should spend 100 euros for it is a mystery to me. In terms of taste, almost any of the countless young NAS Caol Ila bottlings from exhausted barrels offer this for 50 euros. Why something like this ends up in the Signatory Cask Strength Collection is also a mystery to me.
So maybe a tip for purists, if it wasn't for the price.

What the rather light color already suggested is that the barrel has not given up much here - thus a lot of distillery character; looks noticeably younger than 13 years; malty; sweet; mineral-maritime; citrus notes; some iodine; smoke
    • Taste
      82 82
confirms the impression of the nose; little barrel maturation to be felt again; malty; mineral maritime; some pepper; citrus notes; smoke
    • Finish
      83 83
the palate continues. The malt offers the same aromas from nose to finish without much variation.
