For me, the malt offers everything I expect from a well-matured HP from the sherry cask. Very tasty and for a 17y HP fully matured sherry, the price is (unfortunately) still acceptable these days.
    • Nose
      89 89
sweet and spicy with intense notes of sherry; dark fruity; Berry; some orange; heather; Honey; some vanilla; delicate smoky note; despite the clear sherry influences, the HP character is easy to recognize - harmonizes well
    • Taste
      88 88
creamy-oily; sweetness paired with powerful spice; dried fruits; Honey; oranges; tart herbal notes; Tobacco; tart-spicy oak; delicate smoke
    • Finish
      89 89
long; sparkling spicy; dark fruity sweetness; also here nice (heather) herbal notes; some tobacco; tart, spicy notes of wood

For me a rather disappointing HP from the sherry cask. I'm glad that I had a sample beforehand.

First of all, pungent alcohol. Sherry sweetness. Menthol. Some oak in the background. Could be almost any distillery in combination with a modern Sherry Seasoned Cask. With water: No big change (3ml water to 2cl)
    • Taste
      86 86
In the mouth it becomes significantly better and more intense. Dried dark fruits like figs, leather and subtle smoke, HP DNA can finally be seen here.
    • Finish
      86 86
Rather medium length, sweet, oak, some smoke, very pleasant.

Have had the whisky for a week now and worked my way through the first few drams where it has a slight lovage muff off note.
Now, after a week, it's finally gone.

    Pure:
The nose is typical HP, but this bottling has less smoke than, for example, the official 18-year-old. The smoke aromas seem to have been transformed by this barrel into slightly musty but pleasant tobacco notes.
Otherwise it's a very pleasant and intense blend of blueberries, light herbaceous aromas, strong dark sherry and the honey sweetness to the rear.
Undiluted, the whisky is more sweet than tart.

    diluted:
With water it is much easier to recognize as HP and the subtle smoky note is also a little more apparent.
Smells like cedar cigar box now.
and tastes like black tea with cardamom.
The finish is actually not very long, but clean and smooth.

Bit dry and gone quickly, but good
