Still a classic in the peated segment. It's more peppery than the Uigeadail, plus a clear bourbon influence. I actually like this one a bit better even though the Uigeadail tends to get higher scores.

    • Taste

Peat, pepper, citrus, gingerbread and dark chocolate.

I had a horizontal tasting across Ardbeg Corryvreckan L9 to L11.
    • Nose
      90 90
Not as smoky as L9 and put pomelos at the front line, red bricks, fried dark sands and baked potato skin. Burnt wood, roasted fish at a campfire, BBQ sauce, muddy beetroots and celtuce. The longer it stayed in the glass, the more not-so-sweet honeydews it exposed, they came with the rind as well. After more than 30min in the glass, chestnuts, boiled peanuts with soy sauce and fried cauliflowers.
    • Taste
      89 89
Water-cress with honey, slightly sour milk chocolate, starfruits, yellow plums, crispy persimmons, spicy citrus zest and a bit of orange pith. Dried Chinese bayberries, and a bit of black tea.
    • Finish
      89 89
Black tea with honey, rotten spinach, dark plums, grapes, chocolate bar with raisins and nice oak, all surrounded by ashes.

A complete and complex whisky. I use to smell it for ours, neat at the beginning and then with a good measure of water to let it open up...
I like to use it also for my home made blended malts, 2/3 Ardbeg Corryvrekan and 1/3 Genfarclas 105 is thp pme that i prefer.
    • Nose
      89 89
Complex, fresh and warm at the same time. Peat, spices, citric, medicinal and an hint of salt
    • Taste
      88 88
The same sensations form the nose, but the peat is more present than in the nose and the citrics is defined in green lemon. Some black pepper.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long and persistent, burnt wood, pepper, oil.

[November, 2011]  I had this dram during a community society tasting near Bonn.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  I took no further notes as I knew it before.

    Excellent Ardbeg.
    • Nose

    • Finish
Très longue sur la fumée de tourbe

  10. spatti did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

    • Nose
In the nose the smoke and the alcohol prevail. Charred wood as an essential association, with delicate caramelized notes. Fairly dry, completely salt-free, even delicate ashy notes.
    • Taste
The palate is a bit rounder, smoke supported by wood, towards the finish it even moves to an appeal of mustardseed with honey. The body is one of the heavier ones.
    • Finish
In the finish, the mustard comes through fully, to smoky notes and Ananastöne. Especially the smoke is persistent.

  11. Nethar did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    • Nose
Islay, peat, smoke waiting inside glass, some fruit sweetness, chocolate, little bit of salt
    • Taste
both oily and woody, peppery, tons of smoke
    • Finish
extremely long Ardbeg style, lot of smoke

At first it took me some time to come around to the Peat side of scotch.

This version was highly recommended and since then, it has been harder

to come by. I have appreciated it now that I have learned that you need

to savor the flavor on this one for a good two three minutes to get the

full span. If you were to just pour and sip and drink down like it was

juice, you would lose so much of the work that went into this beauty,

enjoy if you can find it.

As a replacement for the much-loved 1990 Airigh nam Beist, Ardbeg
Corryvreckan had some pretty big shoes to fill, but the good news is
that this is a belter, winning World`s Best Single Malt Whisky at the
World Whisky Awards 2010 and Best No Age Statement Scotch from Jim
    Murray`s Whisky Bible.

Bloody fantastic today. It's really hitting the spot.
    • Nose
Kippers and barley sugar washing around in lemon juice. A couple of
drops of water releases the fruit. More water brings calomine and
      elastoplast.
    • Taste
The sweetness is quickly overcome by thumping smoke. Incredibly well
balanced. With water the sweetness returns and its all lemon sherbet and
caster sugar. More water gives more fruit.
    • Finish
Sizzling sweetened smoked fish again. Water lengthens it and brings
waves of peat embers. More water lengthens it further and returns the
      sweetness.

From The Whisky Advocate(formerly John Hansell`s Malt Advocate):

96Ardbeg Corryvreckan, 57.1% Price: $85.00Powerful, muscular, well-textured, and invigorating. Even within the realm of Ardbeg, this one stands out. The more aggressive notes of coal tar, damp kiln, anise, and smoked seaweed are supported by an array of fruit (black raspberry, black cherry, plum), dark chocolate, espresso, molasses, bacon fat, kalamata olive, and warming cinnamon on the finish. Quite stunning!

Colour: white wine. The nose(neat) has a lot af aroma`s like peat smoke, with lemons and oranges. As well as some grassy notes and hints of toasted bread. Also roasted nuts and notes of pepper and my favorite ginger! With water almost the same, but more relaxed, more softer and sweeter.  The mouth(neat) is rather strong and sweet, ending in a spicy and savoury, peaty taste. Then hints of smoke, lemon, liquorice and some cocoa! With water, again the same but much nicer, more pleasant and also sweeter(less peaty). The finish is, again, long, sweeter, but less smoky. A whirlpool of flavours!
