  1. whiskyinstitut scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

    Great sherry whisky
    • Nose
Dark red fruits, spruce needles, a hint of ginger, dry chocolate, raisins, somehow they are joined by gummy bears
    • Taste
Chocolate, raisins, strong onset, but ripe oak, creamy
    • Finish
Zero dryness, full chocolate, nice heat

    Color: copper to chestnut
Nose: very spicy, a lot of salt, herbs, ripe oranges, chocolate, cocoa powder, tobacco leaf, black pepper, heavy oil balsamic vinegar, almond, leather, almonds, tea with apple flavor and straw (here despite the same age no wobbly nose, no significant fluctuations of Beginning with a fine saltiness throughout).
Taste: Soft, round and harmonious! Spicy herbs, honey, a lot of dull leather, not very mature almonds and getting saltier and more powerful. Old sherry barrel flavors in combination with long-drawn tea are spreading; dreamlike.
Finish: Long, but immediately very dry. Sweet and tart combination of almonds, herbs, tea and wood. The oak wood is towards the end always staerker, but perfectly integrated and not intrusive.
Remark: out the back very, very dry; dusty old attic!
    92 points (nose: 93 / taste: 93 / finish: 91)

Nose: After these long years in the bottle a rather variable candidate in the nose. At first mighty old sweeties, then feinwuerzige flavors with little salt, and now the flavors disappear once almost completely. After a few minutes, it unfolds better and better. The elegant spice comes back. Now with notes of dried garden herbs, light rubber (but not intrusive). Although little fruit, but great Teearomen with honey. After about 15 minutes, he then slowly, but surely his whole cologne out. It is becoming more and more powerful and notes of caramelized brown sugar and freshly mown barley field complement the nose.
Taste: Oily and delicious; getting stronger and more powerful with notes of old furniture, salty-spicy herbs, bitter black tea, lots of malt, orange peel, leather and old loft. Fine vanilla with subtle honey completes the taste harmoniously. Towards the end, the honey flavors dominate; Class!
Finish: Long, very long, spicy-salty, now with orange fruit and lots of delicious herbal tea. Wonderfully dry with only slight hints of wood. Getting drier with irresistible honey note.
Comment: You have to give this whisky a lot of time, otherwise you miss a lot. But for the wait you will be rewarded minutes later. In the nose he changes at first strong; but then full speed ahead!

Great sherried whisky. What once was "very good" can in hindsight from 2020 be considered "close to epic" for its 8 years of maturation. Old sherry style seldom to find these days. Too bad these bottle aren't a bargain these days. Whosoever has the opportunity to try one of these old 8 yo bottle, either @50 or 46% abv. should do so.

The oak-grain mole with light putrefactive inclusions resembling Glen Skotia, is quite deep and complex, but not quite attractive, IMHO, profile, not bad for tasting, but it is not worth buying a whole bottle.
    • Nose
Open, dry, dried wood, dust, mineral notes - mineral water, stone dust; fried nuts, boiled meat, lemon peel, farmyard, light rotten shades.
    • Taste
Oily, enveloping, lemon peel, oak, peppery wave, malt-grain notes, a little dry medicinal herbs, light tablet shades, some tropical fruits.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, grapefruit crust, oak, bitter-sweet cereal notes, young bark.
