Mom's homegrown homemade rhubarb pie, warm from the oven, washed down with a glass of Chardonnay and fruit punch

N: the classic 'dirty' notes of the GlenDronach remain very attenuated: there are bits of balsamic vinegar, of damp wood, even slight nut tips, but in minority compared to a wide spectrum of sugary aromas given by PX. Almond, mon cheri (cherry and sweet chocolate), raisins, light suggestions of orange peel. Dried figs, dates. Panettone. P: surprise. No more dirty notes, but a carpet of chocolate, sweetened coffee, dates, hazelnut ... Very composed, homogeneous, without 'flames'. Creamy (Catalan cream), still panettone; it remains rather woody, but the tannins are never too intrusive. Some citrus notes (let's say chinotto?), Still figs and prunes. F: wood and coffee, still raisins. Dry, tents all'amognolo. Still dried figs. Very special: Christmas but not "puttanone" like other sherried, and without the usual suggestions of berries. When it is said that the barrels of Pedro Ximenez are special ... It will be that we have the method of drying PX grapes, but it seems to really feel the grapes left to rot: it knows little malt, the influence of sherry is really very Branding. Mission accomplished. http://whiskyfacile.com/2012/11/06/glendronach-1989-2011-px-cask-3314-ob-535/

I tasted a lot Glendronach`s (all the 89`s, all the 78`s en most of the 72`s) and for me this is the best Glendronach. The nose is superb, the (initial) taste is fabulous and the finish is great. This a dram which really makes me happy.

    Producer`s Notes
Appearance: Prominent rose-wine hue, built around a light copper orange core.
Nose: Rhubarb crumble and sweet red cherry influence, delivered in conjunction with a light mix of spices and toasted oak.
Palate: Dynamic and fresh, with an initial citrus kick. Contrasting flavours of sugar syrup and molasses bring greater age definition and weight.

  9. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

N: balsamic, raisins, brown spiced biscuit (speculaas), spicy and winey
T: syrup, brown sugar and spicy - cinnamon and brown spiced biscuit
    tasted with Aby

    • Nose
sherry, licorice, motor oil, plum liquor/wine, tobacco, pu-erh & some black tea, (91)
Later: nose-feel turns quite oily, silky & sweeter. Now also some chocolate and more upfront wood notes. (90)
    • Taste
somewhat unusual, upfront molasses, wood & spices for a brief moment, then an old & dusty fruit/plum wine feel & quite a meaty as well (90)
    • Finish
a slow & long development. Still the strange/unusual (plum) wine-y note in the back with quite a sour-botter profile, then cherry (streusel) cake, malty, wood, ginger snaps, licorice & caramel/butterfudge, strawberry jam, pumpernickel and some tobacco occasionally, (92)
