Very nice dram, that brought a smile on my face. The nose reminded me on a peated Version of Blantons Gold (2015). The Taste is best to be described as a more refined version of the 13.1. The finish could be longer though.

    What a sweet punch!
    • Nose
Smoky tar notes, smoked ham, caramel, spicy notes combine with maritime and sweet notes.
    • Taste
Smoky sweetness. Caramelized wood, maritime sweetness, hints of cherries and dark berries with a chilli-like spiciness.
    • Finish
Long. Smoke, smoked ham, fudge. Maritime, slightly spicy notes with a prominent chilli note.

Exceptional nose, strong virgin oak casks present with a few drops of water added. Opens up wonderfully, shocking to be honest for 61% ABV. I'm stunned how balanced this dram is, not overpowering at all. Tasting notes are subjective as we would all agree, so I'll not give a laundry list...soft fruits, melted wax, propolis honey. I will say for such a young whisky the arrival is polished not sharp, and the finish lasts with a creamy smokeyness that is so damn good. I've enjoyed so many peated / smokey drams, this is unique from all the rest in my opinion. It's like a lightly charred filet with light blue cheese finish with warm ripe peaches. Odd description I know.

A treat for friends of Virgin Oak. Very strong attack without the addition of water with a decent sharpness of the alcohol. From the second or third sip it becomes a little more aromatic and sweeter.
With the careful addition of water, a wealth of aromas opens up. All in all a very nice Octomore, if a bit overpriced.

For me a really good Octomore. Much better than the 10.4, for example, which I didn't find to be a successful variant with Virgin Oak. What I also found very nice: the almost 62% leave a lot of room to play with water and it's worth it. You can certainly take out the sharpness and increase fruit, wood and herbs.
