On the nose there are notes of nut chocolate, tobacco and herbs. Then sweet popcorn aromas, malt candy and dark fruit jam unfold.
The taste of the whisky is not sweet, it is rather spicy with slightly tart tones and roasted malt. A few drops of water make it milder, herbal sugar and cherry cough drop with menthol. But the whisky also leaves the impression that the bourbon barrel has contributed little to the aroma, the sweet vanilla base is missing, at least it remains very much in the background of tart wood aromas.
In the finish, the whisky ends quite quickly and dryly. A light chocolate note with some unburned cigar tobacco - or is that vanilla after all? A peppery-hot note of dark chocolate with chili also remains.
I'm a little missing the final enthusiasm for the whisky. He has nice aspects, but somehow can't completely convince. The spiciness is a bit annoying, it stays a little too thin in the aromas. Nevertheless, this is a good whisky - but also a whisky that cannot live up to the high expectations due to its age and current price.
