Whisky Reviews for Macallan 1978

- A brilliant malt. He should, however, be given enough time in the glass so that he can develop his full aroma.
- A really good old sherry drop that just needs a bit of harmony to get to 90. The 79er is clearly better.
Paxarette sweetness, looks very fresh for 18 years in sherry keg, cooked forest fruit, caramel and orange peel, cloves and tobacco notes, also a bit chocolaty and a spurring sulfur - all in all, but rather very sweet, fresh and fruity
velvety and sherry fruity, he strokes the tongue, roast flavors and tobacco notes come back, the oak kloppft for the first time, very sweet and pleasant
In the finish comes first a spicy pepper note, then beats the oak fully, it comes to an interplay of bitter oak and the fruity sherry sweetness, the finish is medium-long and very pleasant
- Wow. A great drop from which you would like more! Complex, fruity and intense. And yet never the "sherry bomb" with the "steam hammer", but quite subtle and flattering.
After a moment to breathe for the good stuff I dare to glass. Directly a rich (sherry) fruitiness hits the nose and lets the water flow. Typical macallan: Pickled strawberries, forest fruit (tea), dark grapes and vanilla, all caramelized with brown sugar. A fine crème brûlée touch. Behind it a hint of orange peel and ginger. The whole is rounded off with milk chocolate, some tobacco in a leather case and oak. You do not even want to take your nose out of the glass.
With a little water, the fruity notes and the caramel strengthen.
Juicy orange and berry fruit, pickled strawberry and milk chocolate with caramel. Behind it follow the spicy tobacco and oak, which take the palate. Slowly they convert to mocca mousse and espresso.
Long and warm with oak, orange and chocolate.
