It's been a while since I've tasted it, but my mind kept wandering to a 12-year-old Laphroaig imported by Bonfanti (bottled in the 1970s).
    • Nose
Brighter and even fruitier than some other late 1990s Ardmore I recently tried. Lemon zest, white grapes, nectarines, and grilled pineapple parts, all elevated by the faintest notion of wood smoke. A whiff of plaster too, followed by cotton candy, chalk and forest floor. Super sophisticated and truly complex.
    • Taste
Velvety mouthfeel with elegant tropical fruits, such as papaya, mango, pineapple and lemons, but also touches of resin and soft, extremely gentle smoke. Just a touch of damp oak with moderate, earthy spices.
    • Finish
Medium length with a whiff of earthy smoke, chalk and lingering, sweet fruits. Ending on an ashy note.

Stunning tropical notes from nose through to palate and finish, mingling with the classically soft citric smoke and buttery minerals of the Ardmore distillate. It's like Littlemill (or the fruitiest Glenburgies) and Ardmore had a lovechild. Added to that the herbal ash, pinecones and bitter dark chocolate with olive oil, it has a wonderful complexity, and up there with the very best Ardmores I've had. Tropical notes and soft peat is such a rare profile (probably why some reviewers have compared it to older Islay drams), so this is very much to be treasured. Well done Bram and WhiskyNerds for another brilliant bottling.

Normally not a big fan of Ardmore, but it looks like things can change, with this kind of casks.

Crushed macadamia nuts, ripes peach, super fine smoke, lime zest, sweet pine resin, old Laphroaig. After the first sip, it gets fruiter and fruiter.

The best part for sure !
    • Taste
      91 91
Sweet and delicate mouth entrance, rich, oily, deep and fat smoke like a dense fog, white chocolate, roasted pineapple and nuts, lime juice.

Perfect balance between greedy and citrus
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium/long, first the smokiness, then the fruits, then the citrusy part.

Definitely a beautiful malt and a really nice pick again Nerds !

A gentle oily smoke, with interesting fruits without losing touch with the ingredients and provenance!

Really good fruitiness and balanced peat/smoke, very drinkable - really good stuff!
    • Nose
      92 92
Plenty of pipe tobacco, nuts, citric, some tropical fruits, pine apple, passion fruit, papaya, some ripe orchard fruits as well, apple, yellow plum, melon, orange peel, toffee, whiff of peat and smoke, little minerals and honeydew - very good!
    • Taste
      93 93
Punchy, oily, creamy, spicy, more tobacco, cooked fruits, subtle sweetness, jam, some tropical fruits again, fine peat and smoke, little citrusy, cooked oranges, apple, apricot, cinnamon, cloves, some oak wood - great!
    • Finish
      92 92
Long, warm, fruity, spices, little peat and smoke, little medicinal, toffee, nuts, tobacco

It could be that you Dutch are still just riding high from Van der Poel beating Van Aert in CX, but I'm loving this enthusiasm and have pulled the trigger on a bottle!

  14. Official tasting note

We found a spectacular Ardmore and yes we fell immediately in love with this almost 25 year old expression. An Ardmore with hints of pine, maybe the art is more Ardbeg.
    • Nose
Lemon, little smoke, nuts, red fruit, apple
    • Taste
wow, old style smoke, pine and citrus
    • Finish
      Chocolate and again little smoke

  15. Tomatin1980 scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

Colour: bright yellow gold. On the nose: fresh and vibrant for an almost 25 years old single malt. Soft yellow fruit candy, concentrated pineapple juice from a tin can, mellow smoke, pine forest on a dry day, moss between the trees. Very classic! Water brings out more candy-sweetness. On the palate: mouth coating, delicate notes of wood, very light milk chocolate, fruitiness, it's almost thirst-quenching. Extremely quaffable. Slight sour notes too, in balance with the fruity sweetness. This could easily be mistaken for a rather naked 25-30 year old Laphroaig or Ardbeg. On the finish: very long and clean, goes on for ages. Here you notice this whisky once had peaty tones, but these are all but gone; transformed into tropical influences, oranges and tangerines.

Conclusion, one might wonder if one bottle is enough. An instant classic.
