This was my first single malt ever. What a pleasant entry it was!

  4. Monte Gehro scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A wonderfully balanced standard. Honey, fruit, oak, malt, vanilla. Exactly the right drinking strength, not weak or sloping in the mouth. On the contrary: For "only" 43% alcohol content intense and powerful, and then a comparatively long and pleasantly warm finish.

  5. wako93 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

You might think that 43% Vol. Actually can not really transport flavors. This succeeds BenRiach but quite. Of course, this is no fireworks at the same time overwhelmed the malt but not synonymous. Since you can not complain big. PLV is excellent, gives the guy always around 40 €. Personally, I would put the Euros but rather in the 20s. ;)
    • Nose
      83 83
fresh and fruity. Reminds somehow of a meadow orchard on the different apple and pear trees and bees peacefully hum. One lies under one of the trees and smells resin and freshly broken branches. Alcohol flashes through again and again, in the form of peppery notes.
    • Taste
      86 86
slight pungency through the oak (peffrig) gives the hand with a pleasant sweetness (honey, caramel, vanilla). This is accompanied by a nice, subtle acid reminiscent of apple and pear. In general, the malt can be described well with green fruits.
The mouthfeel is creamy to oily.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish starts slightly malty and then becomes increasingly dry. Towards the end then slightly tart notes.

  6. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A very nice standard Benriach, you can not say much!
    • Nose
Very nice tart, full apple notes, as if you grind apples, beautiful soft malt notes, marzipan, vanilla, a little light honey, pear, nettle melon, very nice freshness in it, a hint of mint as well
    • Taste
Here again directly the beautiful, already slightly mushy apple, red and green, pear, slight heather meadow, generally a little grassy and even a little floral, nice fresh honey from the forest, nettle melon, some lemon, mint, vanilla and a hint of cinnamon, also slightly sour malt and vllt. A touch of Heiderauch completely removed
    • Finish
Tart, apple peel + apple, some grapefruit, pear, malty oak with light bitterness, sour-bitter, medium-long, quite yummy, calls for another sip

A beautiful malt with a varied profile and a great PLV a pity that he was eliminated in 2016
    • Nose
ripe juicy sweet and sour apples, vanilla, spicy fragrant oak - the virgin oak content is directly felt here - intense wood - a bit grassy, spicy minimal resinous with nice acidity, a hint of smoke only as part of the spice backdrop
    • Taste
Honey sweet, sparkling spicy oak - with slight bitterness and an enormous complexity for the age and the low alcohol strength, a lot of sweet vanilla, some pepper and nutmeg, applesauce, some nuts and cocoa, round, creamy, slightly thick, balanced nevertheless spicy
    • Finish
warm - beautiful bourbon tartness, light dryness, nutty bitterness with a lot of dark chocolate and a touch of mint

A solid malt. Here is the finish my personal highlight. I would not have expected at 43%. Super PLV (March 2016 about 45 €)
    • Nose
bright fruits (apple, zirtone), flowery freshness, sweet blossom honey, malt, alcohol is not noticeable
    • Taste
Vanilla, light wood (birch?), Honey, light bitterness, light apples
    • Finish
medium to long, vanilla, oak and still very sweet sweet honey

  17. recursiewhisky scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

All in all a delicious whisky that has a lot to offer. He has sufficient complexity to smell good and always discover new things and is also accessible enough for a beginning whisky drinker. Overall a nice all-rounder for a nice price
    • Nose
Full round scents, spicy (sugared ginger?, Vanilla), honey, fruity notes (papaya, banana, pineapple), a hint of chocolate, marzipan and oak.
    • Taste
Beautiful round and complex flavors with a silky soft mouth feel. Creamy honey and chocolate. Tropical fruit (orange, banana, lime, coconut and pineapple) with notes of almond and hazelnut. Beautiful flavors of vanilla with oak. At the end a hint of herbs (sage and rosemary) that fit more with a roasted lamb than the dessert I tasted before. But certainly not overbearing or unpleasant.
    • Finish
short to medium finish with notes of oak, orange and chocolate. slightly drying in the mouth. Right at the end it looks like I taste some smoke but then very much in the background.

  18. maltaholic scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Golden brown color, very appetizing. There is a lot to smell: pear, vanilla, clove, compote, grapes, sherry. Strengthy start, I am very warm heart. The vanilla comes out even more clearly, giving the whisky a sweetish-spicy note, suitable for the season. Great whisky for a very good price.

  20. Marko_I did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Well made standard Speysider in drinking strength without frippery, just good whisky with age at a fair price (45 €).

(Of course nothing for the elite, cool filtered, no single cask, diluted, no 1st-fill-something, no finish ... so to speak stinking boring.)
    • Nose
mild and sweet, malt, honey, vanilla, slightly floral freshness, a hint of pineapple and dry wood
    • Taste
creamy and sweet, honey, slightly overripe banana, toffee, nut nougat ... if you give it a lot of time on the tongue, the oak comes to bear, tenderly roasted aromas and a pinch of pepper
    • Finish
      medium long, creamy, bittersweet

  21. MrRancho scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

Nice, multi-layered whisky. The dominant floral aromas disturb the balance, but otherwise quite good and tasty.
    • Nose
Flowery, honey, hay, apples, orange blossom, very light sherry and caramel notes, some wood removed.
    • Taste
Flowers, sweet, some orange peel, some oak
    • Finish
Medium long, flowery, a little oak, some salt.

  22. Shane_IL scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

    Classic ex-bourbon Speysider.
    • Nose
Honey. Light herbs. Dry grass. Pineapple in syrup. Light wood (balsa). Green banana. Apricots. Custard.
    • Taste
Sugary dried fruits. Banana. Bit of salt. Some woody vanilla. Icing sugar.
    • Finish
Medium. Bitter wood. Stewed fruit. Dry lemon. Hint of bitter espresso.

Mmm, sublime! The nose is light and floral and the palate is perfectly balance between sweet fruit and barrel spices.
    • Nose
Very clean. Green apples and felt marker pens. Lots of flowers and nectar with honey and macaroons. A hint of Malibu rum, and undoubtedly the smell of honeysuckle blossom. Wow.
    • Taste
Strawberries with gingerbread ice cream and strüdel. Very well balanced between sweetness and spice.
    • Finish
A whisp of salty, tangy peat and then creamy oak.

  26. Archer scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

A decent single malt from the Speyside, but it lacks a bit of complexity.
    • Nose
Ripe fruits like pear and bright apples. Honey. Milk chocolate. An airy and light nose.
    • Taste
Again, the fruits from the nose. In addition, however, a little nut and oak, also vanilla and a minimal Pfeffernote.
    • Finish
      Medium.
At the beginning, the bright apples say goodbye, the pear stays a little longer, but is sharper than before. Finally, nutmeg and pepper remain.

BenRiach 16 years, 43% alc., Original bottling
Maturation: bourbon and sherry casks, as well as unused American white oak barrels.
Region: Speyside, Scotland Nose: sweet and fruity with some marzipan. This is followed by directly dried oranges and malt, then flower meadow. The sweetness is reminiscent of honey and shortbread. Then the nose is a little spicier, a little freshly peated peat is noticeable. ... Palate: Fruity and spicy, full in taste. Some heather, apples and nuts. A hint of peat smoke, honey and caramel, baked apple. Finish: Mid to long, drier than on the palate. With oak wood and a slightly bitter spiciness, some coffee. Conclusion: Significantly more mature and complex than the 12-year-old BenRiach, more oak on the palate and on the finish. For beginners maybe not immediately recommended, for advanced a perfect dram! 84/100 points (tasted 2015 - approx. 45)

    Nice malt for all days.
    • Nose
Pleasantly sweet, such as marzipan and raisins, a little less clear is the sherry.
    • Taste
Sweet, slightly spicy. Much more complex in the nose than in the mouth.
    • Finish
Much less sweet and with plenty of spice.

    a great whisky
the incredibly sweet citrus fruit and the slowly developing smoke, which is becoming more and more present, harmonize wonderfully together
    • Nose
strong smoke, in intensity somewhere between Talisker and Islay
this is said to be supposedly non-smoky ... but I leave that, I've talked too often and speculated
behind it a nice sweetness and citrus fruit
      Apricots and mirabelles
      the yellow fruits become sweeter
    • Taste
      Honey, yellow fruits
      salty-maritime and honey
In the mouth, the smoke is almost not there at first, only in the throat it makes itself noticeable and then sneaks from back to front
    • Finish
sweet and smoky, a fine campfire smoke has taken the entire mouth

    • Nose
Refreshing aroma of meadow, vanilla and sweet honey. Followed by green apples and pears.
    • Taste
First very sweet, and then strong and very spicy. Vanilla and very light oak notes. Much wealth and power.
    • Finish
      Medium spicy and spicy.

The BenRiach is a honey-yellow whisky. The aroma is very gentle and plays around the nose with a mixture of caramel and pear. The taste is difficult to grasp. A light peppery spiciness, but also caramel and sweet fruits in the background. The finish is rather unspectacular, soft and short.
This BenRiach is a simple, uncomplicated whisky. Simple, but tasty.

  43. Kirsch scored this whisky 79 points Expert Junior

Soft sweet and fresh nose, with apples and pears, creamy creme brûlée, vanilla but it rather falls down on taste, with some bitterness reminiscent of blends. Some toffee and sweetness returns on the soft finish. A subtle whisky with some positives on the nose.

    • Nose
Honey, vanilla, slightly malt. It's the smell of such a lighter style, with a little spice. (82 b)
    • Taste
Surprisingly strong and sharp, the smell tangled me on something lighter, here I am quite surprised with fullness and strength. Honey, wood and cinnamon. Finish long and sharper. (84 b)

For the price, you do not have to leave.
    • Nose
A refreshing scent of corn is released when opening the bottle, cereal with a slight hint of fruit. In the background is what hazelnut, honey and vanilla with toasted bread to detect
    • Taste
A creamy texture with a clear presence pepper followed by vanilla, toffee and apple. A hint of smoke and a taste of marzipan off him, super!
    • Finish
Soft, sweet and spicy finish with notes of blissful include toffee and sherry.

  48. hsmithjr scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

This is very nice, but for a few dollars/euros/pounds more, the 20 year is a better dram.
    • Nose
Fruity (pears and Fuji apples).  Fresh honeycomb.  Malted barley. Fresh spring grass.  Wood varnish.
    • Taste
Rather sweeter than expected.  More malted barley, and some cereal.  More apples (I am feeling Gala apples this time).  Is there some peat smoke in there?  Maybe just a hint.  Or is that burnt wood?
    • Finish
Medium long.  Spicy oak, with some vanilla highlights.  Sharp, but in a good way.

  49. Lafroy scored this whisky 77 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Quite amount of fruit sweetness, raisins, resin, oak, hints of fingernail polish, watermelon shell, dried grapefruit peel, forest flowers and herbal spices.
    • Taste
It starts with sweet notes, lightly and fruity with flower-like notes. After a few moments it becomes bitter, with hints of citrus and grapefruit, hints of white pepper. Unfortunately too much water made it flat, weak, bitterness is not very pleasing.
    • Finish
Medium long, not very intensive with hints of fruits and flowers, just a little bit of spices, but everything is weak and poor.
