Whisky Reviews for Ben Nevis 1984

9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.26 points

  1. Calmar scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

A very worthy whisky of traditional sherry aging, excellent aroma, slightly lagging taste, delivering, nevertheless, with its density and pressure, a soft finish - a classic, very smooth, deep, without obvious flaws.
    • Nose
Open, wet, dried fruits, new leather goods, herbarium, refined foliage, light sulfur-mineral tones, pastry notes - burnt jam, baklava; nuts, earthy shades, puer, shoe polish, polish.
    • Taste
Powerful, rich, wood-dried fruit, confectionery sweetness, baklava, creamy notes, dry earthy and mineral-sulfuric notes, a little pepper, leavened wort, ginger, dark chocolate and pipe tobacco.
    • Finish
Light, refreshing, a bit of puer, minerality and metallic acidity, unsweetened prunes and raisins, cola, soft woody notes in the background.

    WITH WATER

On the nose there is cocoa powder now and chocolate praline and the palate is slightly less sweet but basically still the same.

The finish is a little shorter.

What a lovely whisky, a big thumbs up from me.
    • Nose
      That is a great nose.

Fruity sherry on blackcurrant, raisins and dark chocolate but I also detect possibly some mango in there,
    • Taste
Smooth but there is a little bitterness in there initially. Definite plum sauce and notes of fig and prune.

The bitterness was only there on the first sip, after that it was sweet

There is not as much dark chocolate on the palate as on the nose.

There is also sweet caramel in the mix.
    • Finish
      Long, very smooth and sweet

      WITH WATER

On the nose there is cocoa powder now and chocolate praline and the palate is slightly less sweet but basically still the same.

The finish is a little shorter.

What a lovely whisky, a big thumbs up from me.

  7. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

Nose: lots of sherry, spicy, wood, chocolate, ripe fruits, coffee and very warm

Taste: floral, fruity, spicy like in `Curry Gewurz` and a bit dry

Finish: creamy, coffee, again lots of sherry influence and very fruity - apple,
    peach, white grapes

Great dram! Score would be higher with a more complex taste

  8. mbinder scored this whisky 95 points Expert Junior

I hate that getting cut off is always here .... had written a long time note and now everything is gone and I'm tired.
just so much - hammerbottle - see ralfy. but what ralfy does not say, uhu-glue .... wonderful.

  9. QuarterCentury scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

This Ben Nevis was distilled in December 1984 in Cask No. 98/35/12 for 25 years
and vatted in sherry casks in October 1998 then bottled in December 2010.
Only 526 individually numbered bottles were produced at cask strength 54.0% Vol.
    A Ben Nevis of
this age tends to be a very robust, muscular, western highland style
whisky. This one is typically full of spice, chocolate, coal, earth and
rich fruits. A brilliant Ben Nevis, one of the best in recent years.
