Very nice club bottling, unfortunately I didn't get any more. But then I was happy about the holiday tasting set with a sample.
    • Nose
      89 89
Subtle peat smoke and citrus aromas. Dry fruit Raisins and sultanas, dates. Vanilla. Sour note with fine chocolate and pastries. Slightly like almonds and nuts. Strong coffee.
    • Taste
      91 91
Deliciously fresh and intense fruit with the Kilchoman citrus sweetness. Gently creamy with coffee chocolate. Again the nut flavors. The smoke remains reserved and the sweetness is surprisingly rather subtle.
    • Finish
      91 91
The freshness and the fruit aromas stay on the palate for quite a long time, and a little smoke also lingers very nicely.

A great club bottling. Very courageous and this courage is rewarded. For the young age, which is hardly noticeable, it is relatively complex and at the same time in good balance.

Classic Marsala influence here, exciting to experience that with Kilchoman, round thing in any case!
    • Nose
Rather reserved and sour on the nose, then chocolate comes through, Neapolitan, slightly nutty, but also has a citrus touch, coffee flashes briefly, the smoke is quite restrained, the first sip opens the nose a little, now some bacon too
    • Taste
Dense, creamy, chocolate, coffee, nut, this is where the Marsala strikes, more smoke, dry and combined with the coffee, light roasted aromas, and constantly dark in the background, not even that sweet, but tasty and intense
    • Finish
Fresher, mint, apple, hazelnuts, coffee beans, smoke only slightly on the palate

    Further information from the distillery:

Many of the previous Club releases have celebrated the classic Kilchoman character, a combination oloroso sherry and bourbon cask influence, however this year Anthony and Robin have chosen one of our experimental cask types for the first time since the 2015 club release.

The Eleventh Edition Club Release is a vatting of three ex-bourbon barrels that have been finished in fresh Sicilian marsala casks for fifteen months before bottling at cask strength, 53% abv. As always, this release is exclusively available to Club Members only.

Marsala is a fortified wine produced on the island of Sicily, Italy. The use of only indigenous Sicilian grapes and a complex wine making process gives marsala a uniquely rich character.

“Both sweet wines, like sauternes and fortified wines like sherry, port or marsala, work really well with the peat smoke and citrus character of Kilchoman. The fifteen months finishing in marsala casks has given the whisky notes of golden raisins, toasted almonds and dates as well as amplifying the vanilla influence coming from the bourbon barrel maturation. On the palate there are waves of juicy fruits with the typical Kilchoman freshness and citrus sweetness.” Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder and Managing Director.
