Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 17-year-old V&S

A fantatic dram. There is something green and floral about reminding me of an irish. I would probably have guessed and older Irish whisky if tasted blind. Maybe a Redbreast 21 or something similar (although I have not tasted that particular one yet, but that would be my expectations of what it tastes like). On the other hand, the Laddie 16 OB is not far from this one when it comes to powerful floral notes and plenty with character when I think about it. I could just sit and nose this one forever. Today I give it 88/100 as a total.

    • Nose
Floral notes with jasmine and vanilla. White sugar, green pepper corns, mandarine and some herbal notes. There are some green notes, green apples and fresh grass in the background. After water more tropical fruit flavored candy and violet appear.
    • Taste
Even the taste is floral with some perfume in the background. icing sugar, oak, honey, bitter honey, vanilla, parsley (the herbal note found on the nose probably) and sea salt. It becomes sweeter with water more icing sugar and sweet honey. Still floral though.
    • Finish
The finish is very well balanced, medium in length with subtle black pepper notes, bitter honey and some very light peat smoke in the background. Some bitter oak is there as well. The is a second wave of flavors hitting the back and sides of the tongue with honey and jasmine tea.

A secrative dram indeed, complex but nice. Feels older than it is, probably some very good casks has been used. Does'nt improve with water (takes away the complexity and brings out more intense peat and oak bitters)

    Rating interval 85-91
    • Nose
Coffee, acidic, nuts, floral, vanilla, green pepper, dusty oak, exotic fruits, candy sweetness, perfume.
    • Taste
Powerful, large sea salt crystals, herbal, old oak, coarsely-ground black pepper, honey, lettuce and feint peat.
    • Finish
Medium long with soft peat lingering.
