Whisky Reviews for Strathisla 1970 TWA

  1. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

For a while the best high-strength sherry bomber, great balanced at everything, deep, meaty, yummy.
    • Nose
The% bombs the aromas in the nose, but without really burning, camphor, pure cocoa powder, saffron, cappuccino, dark roasted malt, old leather armchairs freshly oiled, mahogany potion, tobacco tin, figs, dates, raisins, chestnut, soy sauce
    • Taste
Cocoa powder, saffron, figs, dates, pure power, burnt butter, maple syrup, bacon, sweet licorice, cherry pits, black cherry, teriyaki sauce, nutella, chocolate pudding
    • Finish
Chestnut, dark malt, oak, mushrooms, bacon, burnt chips, long

  2. Falnor scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

A whisky that shouts big in every way. It's very old, it's heavy on the sherry, the alcohol is high (no angelshare?) and big on the taste.
    • Nose
The air fills with this whisky. It starts with wood glue, only the pleasant glue scent. After that you get old leather, some raisins and grapes. After a few minutes the fruit shines in complexity, thick jam, a joy that develops over time. Some cigars (not lit).
    • Taste
Heavy on the sherry, lots of alcohol, so expect a very big whisky. Dried fruits and herbs. Tea that was forgotten and stayed to long in your cup. Dark chocolade with a bitter cherry or liquer inside. And don't forget the nuts. Walnuts, little bit juicy oak.
    • Finish
Lovely dry finish that lasts very long. It leaves a warm afterglow

[December, 2011]  I found this dram in an advents calendar sampled by MaRa.

    In
my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5.  Unfortunately I took no detailed notes.

  5. Calmar scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

Beautiful age, sherry whisky, full of dignity, calm and balanced, multi-faceted, full of shades, perfectly balanced, nectar, the highest league, even asking for a shelf to masterpieces.
    • Nose
Open, dry, strong shades of old furniture and furniture varnish, nuts, prunes, stain, light notes of strawberries and chewing gum from the 90s, dried mushrooms, burnt caramel, old leather goods, very deep and complexly woven, whole.
    • Taste
Rich, dense, a lot of old oak, spices, cinnamon, prunes, furniture lacquer, nuts, sweet and sour, tart, the continuation of taste, just as deep and whole.
    • Finish
Soft, rather refreshing, coffee, nuts, cinnamon, a lot of oak, furniture notes, prunes, cola, burnt caramel.
