One of those drams that makes you hungry. Pretty tasty and the best Lochindaal I've had so far. My congratulations to the cask owner and everyone who was able to taste it.

Grilled fish with a honey and lemon marinade. The smell of the food combines with the coal smoke. There is also sweet vanilla and peat. Maybe not the most complex nose, but very clear and forward. After a while, a spicy smoke is added, in the direction of incense sticks or something similar.

Salty and sweet. Peach, Lemon, Vanilla. Just a whiff of that. The smoke has receded into the background, more of an accompaniment. The texture is wonderfully creamy. The fish is now served and supplemented with green apple slices.

Sweet and warming with mild peat smoke it comes to an end. In addition again the lemon, scallops, I also like the apples. Delicious.

After having the first bottling from this fresh bourbon cask aged 9 years.(which was sublime btw) The second bottling from this single cask was certainly worth the wait! This 12 year old lochindaal is a beauty.

Visual: Light Gold, The cask strength whisky has a higher viscosity compared to the 9y old botteling from the same cask:
Oily and syrup come to mind. It takes some time for gravity to do its bidding; at first there is a thin film on the glass, then slowly the tears or droplets take shape, only then do the legs appear. These looks promise a full bodied dram.

Nose: At first you smell the smoke interlaced with strong vanilla reminding me of custard and creme brulee, a clear sign that this is whisky from a fresh bourbon cask.

Creamy concentrated smokey sweetness at first, a bit like Lapsang Suchong with buttery toast, vanilla is still there playing it’s role valiantly though. also some black pepper and (cooked) fruity flavours sweet like marmalade orange and lime are mingling in at a more equal footing.

This Bruadaradh lasts long, reminds me of my serious sigar smoking days in front of my woodstove or with my father in Cuba: smokey ashes, heart warming. Very happy with how our cask's second bottling turned out.
Overall Note: What surprised me is that the whisky has a clear peat smokey character but is less smokey than you would expect for the specification of the malt. The distillation process will play a part in this, but also the fact that there is a solid counter balance of vanilla and fruity citrus notes. Even though the alcohol of the cask strength is high, I thought it was pleasant to drink. Some water does definitely bring out more of the all round character.

Very drinkable whisky for its pretty high Abv, with a nice and interesting mouthfeel; powerful yet smooth, such a gentle champaign-like sparkle.
Clearly peated, but in a subtle way: the smoky side is present though a bit to the background, providing enough room for fruity, sweet and oily elements.
Nose starts off a little modest, the body is the most present and interesting part.
    Very pleasant experience.

Quite modest initially, earthy peat, rubber, fake leather. Then some sweet and soft notes arrive, vanilla. Citrus and some glue, and also a bit farmy character, grassy, oily.
Later on more smoke, ash and licorice.
    • Taste
      89 89
Quite powerful, sparkling. Sweet smoke, vanilla, citrus. A bit plants-like now, a gardencenter experience. Somehow a smooth mouthfeel, because of the almost champaign-like sparkle.
    • Finish
      88 88
Smooth now, slightly sparkling, a bit drying now. Sweet, oily, fruity. Smoke and peat subtle on the background. Then some spiciness arrives, pepper. Pretty long finish.
