  1. HammerHead scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A whisky that improves a lot in the bottle with some oxidation. The nose is great, palate pretty good but the finish lags behind a little. Overall very enjoyable though. However, I would not consider €250+ or even discounts as low as 200 real value for money. It's quite steeply priced for the presented level of complexity.
    • Nose
      90 90
A nicely balanced sweetness and fruitiness, accompanied by nuttiness and a subtle amount of baking spices. Yellow plum, sultana's, dried apriocot, dried apple, bitter orange, almond, walnut, warm honey, some shoe polish, milk chocolate, ginger, clove, pepper and a touch of allspice and mint

The mouthfeel is fairly textured, without feeling particularly thick. Quite some alcohol initially and getting proper balance with water is difficult. Too much will kill off the nose, too little will leave the overpowering alcohol notes. Eventually I'm pretty content with close to 1 ml on a 25 ml dram (and of course give it time!). Creamy, dried fruits like plum, sultana's, apple and apricot, some additional pear and bitter citrus notes, soft new leather, vanilla, slight toffee and honey. Somewhat nutty, chocolate, baking spices but more peppery than the nose and I don't have the mint here.

Quite long, though mainly on the sharp spiciness. The sweeter creamy and dried fruit notes disappear rather quickly. Also still some chocolate and soft leather, ending on a light bitter oak and pepper.
