A small sip brings a mouth full of joy! Thanks dr.Nose!
    • Nose
Soft and full, sweetness from caramal, vanilla en honey and slightly spicey
    • Taste
In line with the nose, nice and full and soft but with a lot more bite to it.
Taste is stronger, a more woody and sweet and also hints of flowers.
    • Finish
Lovely long after taste, more sweet, chocolate like

Nose: rich and rounded. Great polished oak up
front, immediately followed by thick honeyed notes and orange peel. Nice
pineapple candy in the background. Vanilla and almonds. Raisins. Some
hay and flowers (old roses). Very light spices. Excellent balance of
sherry and bourbon, both are clearly present and work well together. Mouth: velvety and quite dry. Much spicier now, plenty of ginger and
white pepper. A little nutmeg. Honey, apricot and (slightly tangy)
orange peel again. Oak and vanilla. Faint hints of dark chocolate.
Sweeter and fruitier with a few drops of water.

    Finish: very long, with
    Seville oranges, chocolate and nutmeg.

    Score: 91/100

A stunning second batch of Balvenie's Tun 1401. This one has power and a
lot of complexity. The versatile aromas of the sherry and bourbon casks
demonstrate a superb balance with the spiciness of this gorgeous batch.
A drop of water perfectly combines this delicate layers of flavours.
    Beautifully composed Mr. Stewart!

    • Nose
The nose starts off with rich aromas of sherry, raisins and winterly
spices - cardamom, nutmeg and cinnamon - along with a touch of polished
furniture. This is nicely balanced with vanilla, tropical fruit, orange
peel, bees wax and herbal honey. With time, hay and flowery notes come
through with gentle odour of rose petals in the back.
    • Taste
Smooth and soft, velvety mouth-coating. The spices, mainly ginger,
nutmeg and white pepper, build up gently with tropical fruit, raisins
and luscious oranges. Acacia honey and custard nicely mingle with a
touch of chocolate, walnut and slightly bitter citrus peel. Dries slowly
towards the finish. Nicely balanced with depth and texture.
    • Finish
The long, warm and spicy finish offers luscious oranges and sweet,
raisinous flavours. Dry and gentle spicy with lingering oak, chocolate
and marzipan slowly fading away. Very pleasant and satisfying.

      WITH
WATER: Water tames a bit the delicate fruitiness both on the nose and
palate, bringing more of the spicy character of the oak to the fore.
Very creamy and soft on the palate with a perfect balance of
sherry-derived fruit, vanilla, oranges and spices. The finish is long,
sweet and dry with a spicy edge. Amazing!

This Tun 1401 batch was released in Europe and Asian markets only. The nose is dry and spicy with allspice, vanilla, and toasted oak, with dried fruits becoming noticeable after a few minutes. The taste is spicy at first with a lingering cinnamon blast that fades slowly to reveal bananas and cream, honey, oak, and hints of vanilla that last through the lingering finish.

The Balvenie Tun 14.01 batch # 2, 50.6%, OB 2010, 2226 bottles Wow! Rich, full, expressive nose on creamy honey, candied fruit (think bolus), cake, cinnamon, gingerbread with candied ginger, clove, Turkish fruit, coconut, dried figs, praliné, wax, and so I can go on. Complex and smooth. The same applies to the taste, complex and smoothness, on pear syrup, apple cinnamon, Calvados, ripe pineapple, chocolate, ginger, raisins on rum, mature oak, cake ... which also does. Long finish on candy, citrus, oak and herbs. Clever setting, resulting in a rich, aromatic and coherent whole in which the bitter and the sweet elements balance each other perfectly. My best Balvenie to date. 91/100 http://onversneden.com/2012/01/14/the-balvenie-tun-1401/
