Very tasty, great PLV and you taste what name and color suggest: Campbeltown and sherry

When a new edition of the Campbeltown Loch was released last year after a long time, I was very happy about it. Affordable and pinball unsuitable malt from Campbeltown. I was disappointed in the result, because the batch 08.12.21 - 21/206 was unspectacular, thin and even a little bland. I am all the more pleased that this was obviously due to the batch and not to the bottling in general, because this batch here (03.10.22 - 22/196) is a completely different calibre: bold and full-bodied, absolutely Campbeltown-characteristic and very accessible simultaneous complexity.

At the beginning, it offers mineral-maritime notes as well as fruity notes of raisins, grapes and a dash of lemon. Very inviting, which is exactly what I expect from a Campbeltown malt. A hint of peat smoke envelops the fruit, the nose makes a balanced and well-coordinated impression in all respects.

Full and creamy attack, in which the maritime and mineral notes, which are already well pronounced in the nose, appear a few bit fatter and clearer. Here you get that Atlantic feeling, especially since dry peat smoke - mixed with beech wood smoke - reminds you of a small campfire on the beach. After a while, the creaminess gives way to a woody dryness that, together with marzipan and almond chocolate, now takes over the tongue.
    • Finish
      87 87
Clearly medium-length finish, still fat and full-bodied, lots of toffee, caramel and nougat, plus slivers of almonds, mineral notes pick up speed again, dry peat smoke wafts in the mouth.

Really very nice whisky! Complex, fruity, many flavors... I'm not the type to list all flavors.... it's subjective anyway... but there's definitely a lot in it. What I just love is this oily consistency... there's a heavy, thick drop of aroma running down the glass. Great value for money...but I'm also a Campbeltown and Sprinbank fan!

Buttery, almost oily. Also plenty of sherry notes. Decent, but I like the previous batches more, Sherry is a bit overpowering here.-

First time trying this whisky so can't compare to any previous bottlings. First hit on the nose is like musty laundry and rusty toolboxes followed by some classic maritime notes. Flavours turn to honey and apples as soon as it hits the pallet. Light smoke, pepper spice, orange peel and sea salt fading out on the finish. Love the funk on this one and would happily drink this as a daily. Excellent stuff!
