Sampled in a blind tasting. The wine cask characters really stand out in this, without overpowering the distillate. I don't usually like red wine cask maturation, hence the lower score, but this is a very decent dram.
81-85 - Another dram welcomed
Grilled meat. Manuka honey. Then wild berries, the slightly sour type. A whiff of wet grass. Winey dark grapes. The base is like fruit juice with a drop of soy sauce.
Herbal and peppery landing, then the sweetness kicks in. Vanilla and cranberry jam. Cough syrup. Oranges. Dark chocolate. Wet oak shaves.
Medium, slightly ashy finish. Ripe red fruits with skins on. Drying oak.
