We are talking about the first cask of the distillery from 1964. The presentation is rather simple. However, the color of the grain is promising in a strong honey color.

The single grain presents itself to the nose with notes of orange peel and dark chocolate. Behind are Brazil nuts and truffles. Nutmeg is present. Honey provides sweetness.
    • Taste
      94 94
The Girvan Cask 1 lies silky on the tongue. The single grain tastes of vanilla and oranges. Banana bread gets through. Liquorice and spices complete the taste.
    • Finish
      92 92
The single cask single grain says goodbye for a long time. It leaves sweet notes of honey and impressions of spices.

Berry Bros. & Rudd confirmed that this Girvan was bottled at cask strength of 46.5% ABV. There is some uncertainty whether or not this is THE first cask ever filled at Girvan distillery. However, our database lists cask 1 and 3 as a Berry Bros. & Rudd release, while cask 0002 is from A.D. Rattray, so it seems possible. 1964 was the first year of distillation, after the distillery was built in 1963. One could assume that back in the days, cask 1 did not get much attention, as no one would have thought that this Girvan could be bottled as a single grain 57 years later.
