Whisky Reviews for Laphroaig 25-year-old
9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.02 points
- very complex and balanced, restrained medicinal notes, big marzipan with loads of tinned pineapples
- At least 3 different times I've given a chance to this one, both with other Laphroaigs and by itself, but somehow despite its obvious quality and appreciably unique taste it has never made it to my to-buy list due to the price/performance ratio being off.
Any friend of Laphroaig should try it if you find it at a bar for an ok price or get a sample from someone, but I wouldn't rush to buy an entire bottle before that, because I just feel like a bottle that says "Laphroaig" and "25" on it should blow my mind and this one just did not.
- OK, this is clear better stuff then the 40v% bottling a few years ago. A herbal smokyness in the nose promises a lot. Almost a bit sparkling on your tongue with a really raw mouthfeel, unexpected for a 25 yo bottling. The medicinal, iodic notes are covering the more earthy notes. I miss the typical Laphroig Notes, the peaty fudge - so the nose promise is not kept. If you need an example for the price & age makes not the quality, here you have one.
- Single Dram Note.
slight smoke, apricots, fresh eggs, cloves, heather, grapes, bourbon vanilla, tobacco
chocolate, leather, and again some fresh eggs
long, slightly peaty, vanilla, blackcurrants, aniseed, some apples, vanilla, ham
water seems to bring the aniseed & vanilla to the fore
A strong nose of vanilla breaking through the typical Laphroaig charcoal. Slightly coastal and a sweet honey tendency
Starts in a way that gives an expectation towards a raw 10 year old but quickly moves into a more pleasant and elegant version.
Long, a bit spicy and with a dusty smoky feeling all the way to the end
