Oh look! Not even that good. I prefer the current friendship bottlings.

I have tasted it after Fèis Ile editions of 2008, 2009 and 2010, it's worse.

N: brings a lot of promise with iodine, peat, some wax, apples, bandages, hospital, seaweed, swamp, hay.
T: dry, oak, peated, ashy, watery
    F: short and peppery

    Disappointing - peated water.

  6. etwa77 scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

Yes, it is young and it shows most clearly in the finish.. but the nose juxtaposes so perfectly the smell of spring flowers with the classic, medicinal Laphroaigian peat.. and the taste is so mild, sweet, but quite potent Islay that is just a pleasure to dance with. I’m tempted to score 89.

A very solid, but for a Cairdeas somewhat lackluster presentation of younger LP. Not the best casks used for sure and the abv. is rather low for supposed cask strength. There are better Cairdeas' out there for sure, no reason to buy this older version for a premium, get a recent LP 10 cask strength instead.

That drying effect continues in the long finish, but then it again turns surprisingly sweet on vanilla and honey.
    • Nose
While the nose starts with loads of peat smoke, this quickly fades to make room for oranges and tobacco, followed by brown sugar and oyster sap. But that also needs to move over for salted bacon on the barbecue. And yes, this is wonderful!
    • Taste
The palate follows through on the nose: smoky at first, then sweet and then salty. It goes up and down, but is nicely balanced. Some pepper and nutmeg provide a spicy touch. Midpalate it turns quite dry, though.

    great Lappy,
starts really sweet and fruity in the nose, pear and melons. Later on it shows more peatiness.

in the mouth: full of flavour and quite well balance.
Finish is also rather long, peaty and sweet.

He looks young, but is well balanced. The finish would have liked to be able to turn out a little longer.
    • Nose
      87 87
It takes a while, until something shows up here. Low-key nose. After some time, then mild peat smoke, rotten fish vanilla and honey has worked past the alcohol.
    • Taste
      89 89
Peat smoke and salt are almost mild on the tongue. Smoked pork, juniper berries, pepper and sweet paprika. Also the vanilla and the honey from the nose are there.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium to short, smoky, vanilla sweet.

Beautiful Laphroaig, especially the dry feeling in the body and finish is striking. Very pleasant.
    • Nose
Peat, smoke, wood fire. After a while, this becomes less. Learn. Also comes some orange peel, caramel, brown sugar, and some cigar tobacco.
    • Taste
Dry in the mouth, salmiak. Very light pepper, toffee, chocolate, smoke, ash. Also some pear and melon.
    • Finish
Something more pepper now, Lakrisal. Later the finish will become softer again. Leather, slightly spicy, still toffee / chocolate, smoke. Pretty long finish.

This bottle on February 2011, a typical laphroaig on bourbon. A moderate oily viscose remains in the glass. On the nose the classic laffie / smoke smell, after a few minutes of airing, very subtle, the somewhat sweet tones come in combination with subtle smoke. In the mouth it is soft and sweet with water, taste something like charcoal!, Quick drying, slightly bitter and bitter, with water this whisky is better, cs 84 point. With water a 86. The 2010 edition I have tried and that jumped with 90 points still better, so possibly higher expectations. Despite that, I still expected the same or better, despite that, this remains a nice, simple laffie. At cs strength, I do not really like it, too raw and not smooth and in balance. With water in it, the whisky is just soft, the typical Laphroaig tones come to the surface. This is a whisky that you can drink but you have to take the time for it, also a few minutes of airing is good for this whisky. 86 point with water.

  19. Segens scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Ok it is very unspectacular vs the Wine Finishes etc. But compared to all other Cairdeas 2012-2016 that I have tried I like this one the most. A very well done Islay Whisky!
    • Nose
seasalt, bacon, peat. Classic Islay Laphroaig smell!

Nevertheless it has a great balance and is sweeter and more elegant than the last Laphroaig 10 CS Batches!
    • Taste
toffee and honey sweetness but of course also pepper, peat and smoke. Still a good balance even if the alcohol comes through every now and then (pepper note)
    • Finish
lovely finish with some little oaky notes if you have the dram too long in the mouth. As shorter the dram is in the mouth as better the finish seems to be :-)

a good Laphroaig? Jim Murray put 90 points. ?
    • Nose
A beautiful grist theme with spice and floral tones.
    • Taste
Lounges around the palate as though it owns the place. just stretches out, brings a few brown sugar notes absent-mindedly, also some toffee.
    • Finish
a few bitter oak notes but natural caramels and peaty spices.

Looses next to other Laphroaigs. Nice, peaty & mineral on it's own, next to other Laproaigs the perfumey-ness steps forward too much even occasionally to the point to become unpleasant for me.
    • Nose
iodine, (salty, wet sand, leather - only if had on it's own or next to non-peated whisky...), artificial/slightly perfumy vanilla sweetness, broken twigs/new wood, artificial pineapple ester, some garden hose rubber, caramel fudge, cellulose/wet paper, cinnamon   (86 / 81)
    • Taste
smokey, peaty, vanilla, chalky, artificial sweetness, pear ester, (83)
    • Finish
feels somewhat thin/water-y towards the end, more bright oak, turns drier, with some mixed gummybears dissolved in water, turning slightly bitter towards the end. (80)

On the lighter side, not my favorite of the range
    • Nose
Bourbon influence, vanilla, peat, smoky, ocean breeze, salt water
    • Taste
light bodied, layers of peat, baked pear, vanilla
    • Finish
long finish, salty, seaweed, young whisky

  28. mmaclean scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Very soft and chewy at first. I like this Laphroaig, its not so in your face. Very drinkable and a great starter for those who have not try a real Islay.
