I would not have expected a Glenmorangie to be so intense and oily. And this applies to all levels. Really again a successful bottling in this series
    • Nose
      86 86
Very sweet at first, honey, then light fruit, red apple, peach, followed by a few herbs and nuts. Haribo wine gum. Compliant without being pale.
    • Taste
      85 85
Here, too, a decent intensity. Barely noticeable some grassiness at the very beginning. Acceleration a little stronger than 46% would suggest. Caramel, heavily sugared plums, then some European oak with very light tannins. Unusually present and oily for 46%.
    • Finish
      88 88
Tannins dissipate quickly, releasing vanilla, caramel, fruits, honey, haribo and nuts. Long and intense.

I'm not sure what happened in Glenmorangie's re-branding process... oh dear, this is mediocre at best.
It doesn't help to raise my expectations, as the latest Glenmo' cask experiment bottles I have bought have been pretty mediocre in contents as well.
The only reason I bought this was the Palo Cortado finish and the relative affordable price tag.
Turned out better than I "feared".

      Actually not a bad nose.
      Light sweet floral notes.
Hints of red fruit and the wood is a little "nutty".
    • Taste
      84 84
Potent spices but it's nicely complimented and mellowed by sweet fruity notes.
      Tasty with dry nuts evolving.
    • Finish
      82 82
Not much spice survives into the medium lengt finish.
      Lightly tannic dry sherry notes.

    Quick hit review.

Glenmorangie's lead designer should be tarred and feathered, this label looks like Photoshop beginner's course. Anyway, the nose offers an interesting mix of rose water, apricot jam and nutty notes. On the palate, plums, peppery spices and chamomile compete with anise, ginger and lemongrass. Tasty and enjoyable. Drying, tannic but with some sweet fruit at the end, the finish takes the right turn. The Palo Cortado casks add a nice twist, I like it.

A beautiful Glenmorangie that complements the range well. The Palo Cortado finish is very successful.

Lots of sweetness, definitely honey for me. After that comes the fruitiness on the light side. Apricot, peach, gooseberry. The herbs finish.
    • Taste
      87 87
Much power. Floral with honey and now also caramel, crumble cake with plum, spicy oak load with a very slight bitterness.
    • Finish
      86 86
Spicy of the cask remains with a fruit sweetness that's now at caramel and vanilla. I only have nuttiness in the aftertaste, which is clearly long.

  6. Maltimex scored this whisky 69 points Expert Junior

Unfortunately, the malt does not offer very much and that for this price. Glenmorangie has continued to impress in recent years with high prices and dubious finishes. Unfortunately, absolutely no successful Palo Cortado finish.
    • Nose
      70 70
Definitely Glenmorangie - but rather the 10-year-old than one with a Palo Cortado finish. Otherwise rather flat.
    • Taste
      69 69
Here, too, clearly the 10; clear influences from the bourbon casks, removes unripe hazelnut, very clean malt and lots of sour notes - almost unpleasant.
    • Finish
      69 69
      Short, sour and bitter, meaningless.

Fine nose, relatively light fruity for a sherry finish. On the tongue then unfortunately a little less fruit, with increasing time then a tart note of wood, which also dominates the finish.
