    First of all: my first GF18, so I have no comparison to older bottlings.
    Due to the young, but also ripe fruits, it seems somehow "out of round", i.e. not harmonious, difficult to describe; one expects more "steadiness" from the age of 18.
    He plays a dance on the razor blade between fruity sweetness on the one hand and berry sourness on the other - in my opinion he doesn't always succeed; yet I'm torn.
    From my point of view, the European sherry casks seem a bit worn out, because too many bitter substances are transported. The sherry seems "stale".
    I kind of like him, but then he comes off as odd again; I have to leave the bottle and see how it develops.
    At the moment (upper third of the bottle) I'm not really convinced... I don't want to write it off completely.
    [86 - 82 = good whisky -> get (second) bottle? Perhaps..]
    • Nose
      light sherry tones, red and yellow fruits, apple, apricot, plum; some of these fruits look very fresh and young, but on the other hand they are heavy again. honey, caramel and toffee; Vanilla in the background.
      Forest berries/black and red currants, occasionally a gooseberry acidity, bitter orange and unripe mango.
      spiciness from an Oloroso sherry that brings with it a musty undertone; has a strange-looking aroma of oily, but somehow rancid walnuts with ground cloves.
      Then he also has a barn note with wet hay from time to time; herbal candy.
    • Taste
      light and fruity, with spiciness, relatively sweet. The spice turns into a berry note. Tart note of dark, cocoa-containing chocolate, which also brings with it a good portion of spices that are close to bitterness.
      2nd Sip: even more fruity, sweeter, significantly more sherry notes, the tart note is now somewhat delayed and brings with it significantly more bitter substances and tannins from European oak.
      on the third sip he seems more watery, 43% or even 46% would certainly look good on him - but unfortunately he hasn't.
      Sherry herbs appear in his mouth with a delay; that should be the herbal sweets from the nosing.
    • Finish
      stays spicy and fruity for a relatively long time, dry sherry influence and dark chocolate.
