Certainly not a simple HP, the barrel is special. But in such a tasting series he stands out pleasantly. For fans of dry distillates with a light funk.

Another irresistible note in my nose: leather. Maybe comes from a slightly sulphurous sherry cask, but whatever, that always fits. In addition light smoke and maple syrup. Delicious!

Here, right at the beginning, an extremely dry, nutty sherry note. Must like, seems to have been a very dry Oloroso. Even for me as a fan of such styles already on the limit. But I could imagine that with a lot of air and time he would gain again significantly.

Medium, the cheeks pull together properly, the nutty sweetness is reminiscent of Ferrero kisses with smoke.

The Tasteful 8 is an ambitious series from the Brühl whisky house, which was released on the occasion of several tasting events with food pairing.

Secret Orkney, 17 years old, €118.90, Oloroso Sherry – expectations are high. Secret Orkney is Highland Park, what else. And Highland Park is one of my favorite distilleries. The color is solid gold.

    • Nose
The smell is a sour fruit smoke, which is quite strong and dirtier than one would expect from the proverbial heather peat. The whisky is rough in the nosing and lacks the Highland Park elegance. Of course, that raises concerns about sulphur. There is a note in the nosing that lays over the expected Orkney flavors. These include ripe fruit with vanilla, less dried fruit and no nuts.
    • Taste
It then becomes difficult to taste. The whisky bites, the smoke burns. It's not even the alcohol - it's the sulphur. This is a whisky from Orkney hell, which unfortunately does not meet my expectations at all, which totally lacks the elegance of the good Highland Parks.
    • Finish
For me, the aftertaste consists mainly of the soapy protein note of a sulphurous whisky, which I don't find tasty, but a blatantly wrong note.

I had the highest expectations for this whisky in the Tasteful 8 series and it is the biggest disappointment. Luckily I didn't buy the whisky. Maybe he loses the sulphur, with the years. But who wants to wait for that. For me an impertinence that cannot be evaluated.

Leck-o-mio!!! This is some nice s….tuff!!

I can totally understand why this whisky has so mixed reviews. What an amazing melange of different tastes and smells. Very peculiar stuff in there as well, almost like cilantro and anise. Nothing for the ‘fair-mouthed’ ;-p
