Long aftertaste good Burn just to expensive. Bought a sample and my opinion is to keep your money in your pocket. Their are much better whisky’s on the market for much lesser prices.

Compared this side-by-side with the HP 1973 global travel retail (first edition): This 1978 is sweeter, more fruity and more sherry matured while the 1973 is fresher, cleaner and more spicy - overall I ended up with the same high rating.

Fruitiness, sweetness and sherry wood are very well balanced, must have been matured in a really great sherry cask - excellent!
    • Nose
      96 96
Very fruity, cooked fruits, oranges, jam, honey, also some dried fruits, figs and plums, spices, nutmeg, cloves, fine sherry wood, warm sea breeze - fantastic!
    • Taste
      95 95
Oily, waxy, creamy, sirupy, more candied fruits and jam, good sweetness, wet tobacco, toffee, finest sherry wood, molasses, hints of coffee and milk chocolate - superb!
    • Finish
      94 94
Medium long, warm, fruity and sweet

  5. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Class oldschool HP, very different from the old OA with less clear sherry, but what I like quite well, it comes through more "normal" HP character.
    • Nose
Very aromatic, vintage style, lots of lavender, thyme, rosemary, oregano, brown sugar, herbal honey, hints of sea salt, damp heather meadow, cinnamon, pear, grapefruit and fresh coffee, old wood and old tobacco
    • Taste
Herb honey, oregano, rosemary, lavender, thyme, green apple, old wood, cinnamon, tobacco, grapefruit, red apple, honeydew melon, more salt than in the nose, chalk, beautiful tannins, full malt and freshly toasted bread, burnt orange
    • Finish
Long, full, astringent, tannins, malt, grapefruit and culinary herbs

Another nice HP vintage, sherry is very good on the taste.
    • Nose
Spicy oak, antique leather, carpentry workshop, citruses and fruit basket.
    • Taste
Powerful and oily. Big sherry, tannic oak, creamy peat, spices and fruits. Milk caramel.
    • Finish
      Long, creamy, bittersweet.

Very beautiful Highland Park, even though I found the 30er a bit stronger in comparison. Price unfortunately now with just under 700 € per bottle completely far from good and evil. Highlight the nose, where I can hardly satirize. The taste and the finish I miss the last kick.
    • Nose
As with the 30er standard bottling wonderfully creamy and aromatic. A thick carpet of aromas spreads through the glass and allows saliva to flow immediately. Ripe oranges and citrus notes, some old wood and old tobacco, and viscous honey. Nice "old school" notes and a wonderful nose. Sweet, fruity yet ripe and set.
    • Taste
At the beginning a similar picture as in the nose. Creamy, fruity and sweet. After a short time followed by spicy oak, smoke I can not make out. Here, too, round and smooth, there bothers and scratch nothing, everything flows harmoniously into each other. The light citrus and orange notes, light sherry, the spicy HP character - fits!
    • Finish
Long, strong and slightly astringent. The oak and long storage time set the benchmarks here, without drifting into bitterness. Strong spice, minimal smoky notes on the finish.

  8. Sonett scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Cedar and Oak, Old leather, Honey, Cinnamon,
    • Taste
Sweet Vanilla, Oaky tannins, warm spices, sherried fruits
    • Finish
Medium long, warm with a oaky bitter almond finale

The nose has notes of cedar, cinnamon, honey, melon, and lemon zest. The taste is oily, thick, and spicy with touches of toasted oak and ginger. The finish is long, rich, and spicy with an underlying honey sweetness. Excellent!

Highland Park Vintage 1978 Single Malt Whisky is the latest version of the very popular `Vintage Collection` of Highland Park Distillery. Presented in a beautiful wooden box the drafts shows the skills of Viking artisans working with wood. The picture on the front of this bottling 1978 features the beasts head, as the masterpiece of a craftsman. This is the sixth version in the range to 47.8% vol, bottled higher than the other whiskys in this area. The Highland Park vintage collection pays homage to the voyage of the Viking ..... In the nose cedar wood, spicy cinnamon bark and camphor. Complex on the palate with notes of ginger, roasted wood and jasmine. Lemon zest and a touch of melon are also found. In the finish long, sweet and with persistent spices ......... wonderful! (Gf)
