This is whisky heaven! Sherry cask aging in its purest form. Not too little, not too much. Precisely. 92 points!
    • Nose
A sweet and at the same time spicy nose. A bunch of different fruits. Dates, baked apple, peach, mango and raisins. Scattered on top: gingerbread spice. Gradually it gets drier, but never harsh.
    • Taste
Sweeter than expected. fermented fruit. Intensely I have mango and peach. Oak wood, soaked in sherry.
    • Finish
Long, warm and spicy. Fried Nuts.

Lochside 1981 - 2021, 40 years, 49.2% alc. Bottler: Gordon & MacPhail (Private Collection). Expansion: Refill Sherry Hogshead No. 802

Nose: Herbal aromas and a creamy sweetness. Pine needles meet thyme and sage, some peppermint tea with honey. I find apricot compote and peach, mango and crumbly apples to complement this. Raisins, fruity pipe tobacco and well-groomed leather linger in the background.

Palate: Sweet and creamy at first, then fairly quickly dry and lots of oak, but first things first. Sugared apricots meet mango, pickled apples and banana pulp. Then the slightly mineral and also salty dryness begins to set in. Here peppermint tea comes up again, but also rosemary and camphor, liquorice rounds off.

Finish: Medium length, unexpectedly soft and pleasing. Some oak and spicy heather honey.

Conclusion: Mega delicious and somewhere between elegance and sufficient depth. 92/100 points (2023)

A tropical fruit basket with dried strips of mango, papaya, pithaya. Some passion fruit. Everything glazed with forest honey, with almond sticks.
Rather in the background dark fruits, hazelnut.
    Some menthol

A gentle start, some funkyness comes out in the mouth. Every now and then one of the tropical fruits is slightly fermented, a spice that you didn't expect (dill).
Accompanied, however, is not disturbing but, on the contrary, exciting.
Dominant tropical fruit, light nuttiness, occasionally some tobacco and dark berries.

Medium length, stronger the dark fruit and some walnuts, here comes some coffee, slightly bitter and becoming dry.

Great malt, a great nose and nice taste, nice balance between barrel and fruit notes, every now and then exciting, rather unexpected notes flash up. Slightly dry on the finish.
