Banff 1975 - 2021, 46 years, 48.6% alc. Bottler: Gordon & MacPhail (Private Collection). Expansion: American oak barrel (refill hogshead) No. 3623

Nose: He needs a lot of time, but that's not what I expected given his age. The Banff opens up gradually with sweet fruit flavors including mango, peach and apricot, as well as some honey. Behind this is then mild apple wine, a few shrubs and various flowers, pipe tobacco and delicately spicy wood smoke.

Palate: Significantly drier than the whisky on the nose would suggest, but at the same time it retains its sweetness. The banff is reminiscent of summer apples, gooseberries, mango and pears, shortly thereafter it changes with a slightly dry bitterness towards vanilla fudge with pepper and cigar smoke. Served with a single chocolate malt biscuit.

Finish: Very long, the age comes through with very elegant oak aromas, but the Banff is not bitter at all. The fruit aromas are replaced by dry tobacco smoke and a slightly tart herbal note.

Conclusion: After this sample I will probably open another Banff from my shelf straight away, this distillery has produced such beautiful stuff. 91/100 points (2022)

    Banff 1975 46yo G&M Re-Collection

Pretty fresh leather, lemon tart, vanilla pastry, apple strudel. Flower meadow in spring and some hay, fruit compote. beeswax and honey. Sesame oil.

Still slightly dry and peppery on entry.
Then local fruits (apple, peach, pear), dark forest honey, spicy oak (some clove, tarragon).
Dried mango strips. Moist shisha tobacco (double apple). Roasted Nuts

Medium length, fruit fades away slightly and a dry spiciness determines the aftertaste without becoming too woody.

Impressive whisky that still shows a certain freshness despite its age. Doesn't seem superimposed, but shows great complexity and depth of aroma.
