  1. MaltMartin scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Not a very well balanced whisky in my view (too woody and citric), but enjoysble
    • Nose
Clean and malty. Grassy with a touch of rubber. Later on citrus fruit and green
      apples. Some smoke as well.
    • Taste
Waxy and oily mouthfeel. Peaty and citric to very citric. Slightly bitter.
Even some maritime notes. Oaky. Strange palate for a Speysider.
    • Finish
Quite long. Salty and peat. Oakiness again. Some mint.

For the friends of sweetness ...
    • Nose
Typical Speyside scent. Fragrant, sweet, in the background a perfume-like touch, a hint of menthol ... which disappears with water and gives way to a slightly woody, sweet-tart chocolate note.
    • Taste
At the very beginning a minimal roasted note. Mouth-filling sweetness, the alcohol goes through on the tongue. Behind a few grassy notes. With water an astringent touch, overall engaging.
    • Finish
The sweetness of the palate stays in the finish for a long time before it gets dusty and looks like powdered sugar. If you expect nothing more, churns a floral icing on the finish.

    Allt-A-Bhainne 18y 1992/2011, 56.1%, Malts of Scotland, Bourbon Hogshead # 6, 273 bottles
Fresh nose on dry hay, cereal porridge, eucalyptus, grape juice and apricots. Earth. Slightly alcoholic. Somewhat sweeter (vanilla) with water. Creamy on the tongue, bittersweet, where the bitter gets the upper hand over time. Nutmeg and pepper in terms of herbs, oak and white grapefruit. The sweet translates into a sweet granularity. Eau de vie of plums. Yes, the alcohol also applies here. Long, warming aftertaste on herbs, wood and light rubber. Not bad, but he does not leave a great impression. 78/100 http://onversneden.com/2011/06/16/allt-a-bhainne-18y-1992-malts-of-scotland/

A whisky without great charm whose alcoholic integration is very average. The assembly is a little lopsided and the final is not very nice. Far from being catastrophic but not very interesting either. Full tasting here: http://www.whiskyandco.net/allt-a-bhainne-19922011-18yo-561-cask-6-malts-of-scotland/

This is quite clean teenage spirit. Flawless, but not very inspiring, I’m afraid.

    • Nose
Starts grassy, with a youngish fruitiness. White orchard fruits (mainly pears). Clean linen. Becomes wilder after a while, with a little ammonia and Hollander drops.
    • Taste
Starts softer than on the nose, with some almond cream and a little lemon custard. As it grows bigger, hotter, oak notes grow bigger as well, mainly liquorice. Balance is on the edge.
    • Finish
      Long, dry, and drying. Astringent.
