The 100% Islay has always been my favorite Kilchoman standard. At the beginning the focus on ex-bourbon casks, later also one or the other sherry butt was mixed in, which was not detrimental to the taste. In addition, even when bottled young, Kilchoman has hardly any youthful notes, so that 100% Islay has always been available without hesitation. Same here.
    • Nose
After an average of eight years, the peat smoke has already decomposed and can only be identified as a fine, accompanying aroma. No metallic or youthful notes whatsoever. Peach puree, roasted orange peel, almond brittle, smoked ham. Reminds me a lot of the previous edition.
    • Taste
Soft and creamy attack, peach and apricot puree, like subtle peat smoke in the nose, which does not stand for itself, but appears as a seasoning ingredient - like salt in the soup. With clear aromas of vanilla, caramel and honey, the 29 bourbon barrels prevail over the 6 Oloroso sherry butts, with hints of fresh figs and red grapes also being reflected in the latter barrels. With time comes smoked ham, some juniper, bay leaves, clove powder.
    • Finish
Medium-length finish, increasing peat smoke (but still not dominating), fruit puree, cold coffee (black), vanilla.

Light and fresh, with less sherry character than the older version and only a light smoke. Floral and fruity foremost, with a nice creaminess.

From my point of view, 100% Islay is now more than solid. You can't go wrong there. I liked this year's variant a nuance less than the 11th edition. The sherry casks played even less this time and I think that makes the difference. But at a very satisfactory level.

Nose isn't that convincing. I find it really tasty for that! He also convinces me in the finish.
    • Nose
Clear peat smoke, very ashy, behind it fruit, citrus note.
Over time the smoke recedes and it becomes fruitier, sweeter and gets more maritime notes.
    • Taste
very nice, pleasant peat smoke, light earthiness and a nice sweetness, tingling, sharp.
I wasn't expecting it at all after the aroma. Really great taste!
    • Finish
      medium length, spicy smoke

Farm air, honey, pineapple, banana, lemon, orange and vanilla.
    • Taste
      88 88
Wonderfully creamy in the mouth! Pineapple, lemon, orange, peach, white grapes, apricot, mandarin and salt.
    • Finish
      88 88
medium to long; orange, lemon and grapes remain in the mouth for a while with some peat smoke.

I think the 100% Islay is a very nice whisky. Has been on the wish list for a while and will soon be added to the collection.
The peat smoke is not very dominant, the fruit comes along wonderfully.

    Blindtasting No.12 Whizita advent calendar

Nose: dominant, phenolic, organic peat smoke and citrus, subtle grain and cake batter behind,

Taste: marches off vigorously, phenolic, citrus again, a restrained sweetness, some salt and dryness, "just put together", more watery than oily

Finish: only the dry ashes remain, the rest has quickly faded away

Tip: Bourbon cask, 8 years, 48%
    tip region/ distillery; Islay, Kilchoman

Conclusion: not particularly complex, young, but suitable for fans of uncomplicated Islay

Great whisky with the typical Kilchoman DNA, but lighter as the also perfect Machir Bay. I love this distillery.
    ========
Retaste against Kilchoman Machir Bay CS, I think it lacks the peat what makes Kilchoman so enjoyable but the 100% islay is much more refined, the CS is very young.
