  1. Tommyknocker scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

A little less disarming sweetness, but more fruit and oak than the 10. Can't decide, both damn good.
    • Nose
In direct comparison to the grandiose 10yo CS: immediately more fruit, raisins, green banana, pineapple. But then immediately the nutty, creamy chocolate note from Readbreast.
    • Taste
Spicy fruit, like mulled wine, but not nearly as banal. Vanilla yogurt, pineapple sorbet with cream.
    • Finish
Nestles creamy nutty on the palate, finally a little more oak than the 10 as if it were the same batch with 2 years more aging time.

There's an affinity with the base 12 year regular release and that's nice.
    22 22 22 22
    • Nose
Fruit, vanilla, sherbet, green tea with jasmine, chocolate sausage with butter and shortbread, cinnamon, thinner.
On the other hand, there is a sense of kinship with the base RedBreast 12
In general, it does not change and behaves stably in the air.
      Saturation: 8/10
    • Taste
      Depth, intensity, complexity.
Thick fruit syrup, prunes, green tea with jasmine and apple-pear jam and a slice of lemon. Also chocolate sausage with butter and shortbread biscuits.
Good tannins and lots of tart spices.
      Sweetness: 8/10
      Saturation: 9/10
    • Finish
      Continued taste.
      Mostly spices and tannins.
      Woody finish.

He needs water like a worm tub. No comparison to last year's batch: much more sherry (just the cheap sherry derivative), nevertheless/therefore less "real" fruit, too much alcohol, smaller off-notes and overall more one-dimensional. My first experience with Redbreast CS so I have no point of reference, but I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of bourbon cask influence. Very well-rounded and versatile whiskey at a reasonable price. Aeration and water are needed, at least 15 minutes and maybe at 48-50% is its best version. It does not go higher especially due to personal preference, since there is an excessive (for me) caramel note in taste and finish.

First impression is a subdued toasted bourbon cask influence with heavy spices (cinnamon mostly, also some toasted powder ginger), but some water and time brings forth plenty of aromas. Dried orange blossoms, tree resin, almonds and hazelnuts, milk or even white chocolate, dried fruits, juniper. Blackberry and raspberry, aniseed, juicy red apples, a creamy feeling in the nose already. Caramel and honey, marshmallows, fresh basil, a general grassy/earthy note. However, sometimes also a weird acidic fermentation note comes up (borderline overripe bananas), maybe even slightly sulphuric, a little bit distracting but also fleeting.
    • Taste
      89 89
Oily, super sweet and slightly dirty at the same time. Very simple but flawless and very enjoyable. Honey, caramel and herbs (rosemary). Cedar oil, raisins, oat biscuits, white pepper, a decent amount of minerality, a very rounded wood development (resinous, toasted, spicy, not overpowering but very central). Chocolate and toffee notes, raspberry juice. A little bit dusty, but more as a compliment than anything else. Water is needed but it unfortunately turns up the excessive caramels (for me), hindering this from being goat-quality (for me).
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium length, very pleasant. Chocolate and sweet coffee, orange peel, hazelnuts, faint herbs. Too caramel-y once again, even if not the industrial bottled one. Aromatic and toasted oak, cedar oil, raisins, honey, malty at the very end. Overall a nice experience.

It is always a pleasure to open the new batch of 12 CS and to see the high expectations fulfilled. The joy of batch 1/23 is huge again. Liquid Ireland that triggers head cinema in the most beautiful way

Initially, with a newly opened bottle, Batch B1/22, like its two predecessors B1/21 and B1/20, needed some time in the glass or alternatively a few drops of water to open and lose its peaks more quickly. Well, after a month and a good fifth of the content less, both are no longer necessary because it is "there" right away. A few drops of water are still recommended to accentuate the fruit notes a little more clearly. Speaking of fruit notes: in previous batches, tropical fruits were sometimes very clearly discernible, which can otherwise only be found in Redbreast 21. These are no longer available here, but this is no reason for disappointment, because the berries that take their place are just as tasty, so that in the end it is once again a great batch of 12 CS to report.
    • Nose
Fresh pastries, biscuit dough, raisins, fresh blueberries and blackberries, topped with a spice mix of allspice, marjoram, tarragon, rosemary and thyme. Earthy, loamy, leathery, dry autumn leaves, an old library with dusty folios, a hint of floor wax
    • Taste
A creamy, full, voluminous start, 58.1% is noticeable as a warming effect. Deep dark cherries, grapes, raisins, fresh figs, blueberries, black currants. Dry clay soil, shortcrust biscuits with dark chocolate, nougat, toffee, milk coffee. Very well balanced spicy notes that join the other aromas after a while.
    • Finish
Medium to long, creamy, fruity for a very long time, only mild and delicately spicy with grated nutmeg and cloves.
