Dier Laphroaig is dominated by a very sweet PX finish and was therefore no longer recognizable as Laphroaig for me in blind tasting. The smoke is unusually greasy and only remotely medicinal.
For my personal taste, it's too "alienated" and overall too sweet.
    • Nose
Sticky sweet, chocolate cake, tobacco, grapes. The smoke takes a long time to fight its way through and finally to appear.
    • Taste
Very sweet, thick texture, powerful attack.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet, smoky.

Smoky, sweet, with ash, dried fruits and a slight citrus influence.

The whiskey community is a bit strange: This is the first ADOS that was still available in the shop a few weeks after the release. Why? It says Blended Malt on it, but underneath it says Williamson. And you don't actually need the 1815 on the diving bell to know that Williamson is teaspooned Lapphroaig. And that it is questionable whether there really is another whiskey in it. They don't want an independent Laphroaig - so you have to put blended malt on it and call it Williamson. The color is solid gold and similar to the original Cask Strength. But here it was really the barrel and not sugar color.

    • Nose
Immediately there is the smoke reminiscent of the original Cask Strength Batch 15 Laphroaig smoke. Here comes more dirt in the background, carried by the sweetness of the PX, maybe some sulphur, too. Ok, not maybe - there is sulfur, but it's not unpleasant on the nose. It comes smoked ketchup with a sweet tomato spice note.
    • Taste
The whiskey is sweet and oily on the tongue but has strong alcohol that calls for some water. Then comes subtle grape-nut chocolate, there is wood and unfortunately the sulfur in the taste is a bit too strong.
    • Finish
In the aftertaste, the sulfur settles over the smoke and gives it a greasy component that I don't find that tasty. It's within limits, the whiskey is ok. Perhaps it is also an aroma that others interpret and like as umami. Unfortunately it bothers me. And then at the end the smoke sticks to the palate again and reconciles something with the whiskey.

If the sulfur note wasn't there, I would have enjoyed this whiskey more. So I actually find the Original Cask Strength Batch 015 better. It's also €20 cheaper.

I wouldn't have recognized him blindly as Laphroaig. He's a bit lacking in that medical touch.
    • Nose
      87 87
Something metallic young. Salty Islay peat smoke, a bit like a sizzling campfire. Only a little fruity, but sweetness.
    • Taste
      88 88
A lot of sweetness. Hardly any fruitiness. Smoke, maybe a little ashy dry. Tart coffee note with gentleman's chocolate. The alcohol is clearly present on the palate.
    • Finish
      87 87
The aftertaste remains characterized by the PX sweetness, but without the fruitiness of the sherry. In addition, the tart, smoky note. medium length

Brutal cutie. The PX barrel really did a great job there. If some is too sweet, I can understand that well. It somehow lacks the fruitiness as an opponent to really make it stand out. In combination with the Laphroaig stinky but a great bottling, which also goes very well pure. In the finish almost something Christmassy, when the dominant sweetness takes a back seat. Cinnamon, clove, speculoos, baked apple. Great. That upgrades him a bit.

Not your typical Laphroaig, lacking the medicinal smoke. But really good in taste. The finish in PX comes through well, but doesn't drown out the bourbon cask aging. Has everything you can expect: banana, vanilla, citrus flavors, nice sweetness, smoke, oak, dirty wood. The alcohol is very well integrated and doesn't come across as too strong.

Simply great and a nice long finish with wonderful aromas that linger on the palate for a long time!

Yes, a Marco Whisky, with a lovely dirt-humped sweetness. So I love whisky, smoky, PX typical, dirty gorgeous. PLV is great. It's really a mystery to me that it's still available in the shop.

In the nose I find greasy smoke with iodine (medicinal), in the background I find a note that reminds me of peppermint tea, plus blueberries, ginger ale and black pepper. The alcohol seems very well integrated.

In the mouth I immediately find the greasy smoke with pepper and again with iodine. Then an extreme sweetness fills the entire mouth with saliva, which I didn't expect. An association with BBQ comes to mind. Becoming less sweet towards the end, the aroma changes back more to the peppery-woody side. The mouth becomes drier. The smoke diminishes but lingers in the mouth for a very long time along with a nice bitterness.

For me a more than successful whiskey
