It tastes good and the retail price is not too expensive.
It's good to have a clean drink.
But this is not the whisky I am looking for.
The bitterness that comes from the wood is too much, and the sherry flavor is frankly lacking.
I'm about to empty the whole bottle now, but I think it was best when I drank half a bottle.
    • Nose
      84 84
It smells like 12 years of sulfur.
You can feel the scent of citrus and old wood reminiscent of lemons.
    • Taste
      86 86
It has a sweet and bitter taste.
It goes through the neck cleanly.
    • Finish
      88 88
It's not long, but it feels good to fall off.

Beautiful malt with fine smoke, hints of dark chocolate, apricots and vanilla.
In the mouth, in addition to a nice sweetness, its spicy side with notes of leather and cocoa comes to the fore.
Its departure is of medium length, carried by a fine oak spice.

Many ratings without a single word, sometimes only 70 points - as a whisky lover, you can hardly bear that, because this is a really great pleasure whisky for drinkers and connoisseurs.
I think anything between 88 and 90 points is acceptable depending on personal preference.
The whisky can still be recognized as Campbeltown and is a good representative of the standard range.
A no-brainer for 90 or 100 euros if you can have fun with 46 percent. There is nothing wrong with the craftsmanship and this whisky also offers individuality.

    Great PLV.
    • Nose
      90 90
Maritime, salty aromas, plus the vanilla and barley sugar aromas from the bourbon casks and a minimally dark and spicy fruity note from the sherry casks.
The best part is the smoky dirtiness in the background.
A really good Kilkerran 16yo bottling in drinking strength.
    • Taste
      89 89
Great mix of fruity vanilla, the light-dark fruit and wood aromas, the wood and the slightly dirty distillate. I think that's great and worth at least 89 points. Spreads more and more the longer it is spread on the palate.
    • Finish
      90 90
      89.5
Soft, full-bodied and very oily. For a 16yo standard under 100 euros a bench. The finish is at least medium-long and slightly smoky-salty. There are so many worse whiskys for 100 euros.

    Light golden colour. Extremely oily.
    • Nose
      86 86
Fruit in the ashes. Peaches. Ripe apples and pears. minerality. Sea salt. A pinch of slightly spicy spices. White pepper. Sea breeze. A trace of red fruit underneath. Maybe a bit of forest. More sweetness on the second nose. Vanilla and honey.
    • Taste
      85 85
Some sweets. Fruit. Peaches. Apples. Ash. Spices. Black pepper. A bit of oak. Cocoa.
    • Finish
      85 85
Red fruits. Cocoa. Dark chocolate. Spices. White pepper. Cinnamon. Oak bitterness. Salt. Medium-long finish.

The aging is on a third sherry, two thirds bourbon which gives it a very nice taste of milk chocolate and enhances the cereal flavors. It takes me back to the chocapics of my childhood.

The finish is on a noble wood without too much astringency.

Unexpectedly sweet, lemon pastries sprinkled with icing sugar and accompanied by a light peat and lemon peel

Very nice aromatic but the alcohol burns too much for a reduced whisky. Rather disappointed with this batch
    • Nose
      Mineral, white wine, quince
    • Taste
Rather oily texture, in the continuity of the nose but rather disappointing compared to previous versions
    • Finish
Slightly green, an unpleasant bitterness sets in. Disappeared with aeration of the bottle.

    Aroma
Citrus notes, little wood spice, slightly maritime, not so convincing

    taste
Oily, sweet, spicy, creamy, salted caramel, great

    finish
Long, maritime-sweet, again the citrus note, astringent, somewhat thin

  26. Narbmeister scored this whisky 90 points Newbie

    Nose
Citrus but also hints of dark fruits like blackberries and blackcurrants, brine, wood notes turning almost vegetal, lightly toasted marshmallows, small hints of peat

    Palate
Almost savoury/sweet character, Campbeltown funk comes in quickly following with light salt and iodine. Caramel and bread after with peppery baking spices. Hard lemon candies to flow to the finish.

    Finish
Sherry barrel notes now coming through with a slightly dry feeling, longer caramel notes weave back in but still with that zingy citrus taste on the edge.

Lovely whisky, had the 12 on repeat but this may start to take precedence (if I can find a bottle easily), fantastic for the Campbeltown lover. Very much enjoyed.

  27. whiskybommel scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Quite sweet, salty caramel, grassy, very citrussy (grapefruit?), warm and caramelised demarara sugar, hints of lemon shortbread dough.
    • Taste
Light but oily, some ginger spice, hints of white pepper, very fresh with lots of lemon, salty caramel - quite salty and maritime indeed.
    • Finish
Salty and sweet with notes of lemon, caramel and mussels (?), slightly dry peat, medium long.

      Altogether dangerously quaffable!
