Great whisky! hs305 and JoshNRW actually said it all. In direct comparison to the WB196310, I found the HP from the sherry cask a bit better. But it's a matter of taste. Anyway, both are very good whiskys that the newfangled HP marketing stuff can't even begin to compete with.

This is a wonderful whisky and quite an experience. The age, the percentages and the distillate simply harmonize perfectly. The whisky actually has no weaknesses and is at a consistently high level.

The price seems reasonable by today's standards; at least for lovers of such clean whiskies.

Wow, even the first nose is simply wonderful. Soft, intense and balanced. Just perfect on a 27 degree summer evening.
This matches my preferred flavor profile 100%. Waxy honey, behind it ripe, slightly tropical fruits and then a minimal, subtle peat smoke (although for me that has nothing to do with the smoke of today's Islay bombs). The distillery character is represented by a beautiful hay note that gives the whisky a special touch.
This is probably my best Highland Park so far..
    • Taste
      90 90
The first palate continues what the nosing promised and initially develops tingly sweet (ripe pineapple). A slightly light, woody bitterness follows in the middle part, which is not to be found in the nose, but is never really over it.
Then a dry spiciness at the back, which combines with creamy sweetness. Great development, great mouthfeel.

The finish is long and the mouthfeel is round and harmonious from start to finish.

[August, 2022] I just had a "Secret Orkney" Highland Park from 2005 (WB215485) which was nothing else than another me-too heavily peated dram hence as a lover of the traditional HP profile I was quite disappointed. So I can not end this evening with such a flop that is why I opened another "Secret Orkney"...

...which is much, much better. Yep, this is the complex and impressive Highland Park profile I really adore and it is dangerously quaffable, as usual. And given the price points of the official HP releases it seems this one is still okay-ish priced (in relation to the OBs, not in the "bang-for-your-bucks" dimension) - I like it.
    • Nose
      90 90
The colour is old gold and the nose offers the unmasked and delicate HP profile which made this distillery famous with many awards claimed over the decades and many whisky connoisseurs adoring it, among them me. It is both complex and delicate with a subtle peaty note which complements perfectly the honeys, waxes, heather, lilac and spices. Pretty fine, but I enjoyed the 21-years old (WB196310) a little more.
    • Taste
      91 91
The taste is multi-layered and perfectly balanced just like most old Highland Park releases I tried so far. All three malt, peat and wood team up in harmony to create various waves of interesting and delicate flavours which rush slowly across my taste buds. There are significant oils and waxes too which ensure a full-bodied taste. I suggest to chew this dram slowly as it releases many additional impressions this way. Again I like the 21-years old (WB196310) better in this dimension.
    • Finish
      91 91
The initial mouthfeel is warming and instantly coating without distracting bitter or astringent moments. The finish is long and adds more honeys, peppers and interesting nutmeg impressions. There are no distracting moments until the very end, great. Some water smooths the dram and turns it even more quaffable but the layers intermingle now. I like to explore this dram neat and enjoy to drink it neat and at various reduction levels.
