Rating based on lot of time in the glass. This whisky needs opening up time.

  3. Gloin scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A nice single malt from ex-bourbon barrels, rather light and fruity, but with an independent character. For many German whiskys disturbs me this fruit note, not here. I like it.
    • Nose
Hay, yellow apples, vanilla and caramel, lemon zest, fresh and yet sweet, almost perfume-like, very tempting
    • Taste
The onset is gentle and the body is soft, then comes at the first moment, the acidity of the nose, the palate contracts slightly, before it gets sweeter, lemon cream with custard, but also a slightly bitter oak note floats in the background
    • Finish
bittersweet oak, the acid softens, but the memory of it remains, not very long

  4. The Macallan scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

A nice but average Bladnoch. Not an ace!
    • Nose
A fruity Orchard, moorland (floral), mild, estery, pear (reduced: luke warm, fruity, citrus, confit fruit and later some sherry
    • Taste
Soft, floral, spicy (reduced: sweet, peardrops, some woody notes with a trace of vanilla)
    • Finish
Mild, with a spicy, warming, floral finish and sherry in the back

  5. Noface83 scored this whisky 85 points Specialist

Nose: the straw-yellow color indicates bourbon, it can also find some notes of solvents and vanilla. There are also fresh citrus fruits, immature tropical fruit, and a slightly earthy undertone creeps around in the background. Here, the barrel has little influence and the Brennereicharakter is very dominant
Taste: easy onset, sugared lemon slice, malty sweet and slightly grassy, but on the finish then comes the barrel with a bitter slightly peppery oak which harmonizes well with the sweetness. Again, a fairly short but pleasing finish.

Conclusion: that's what I mean by a summer paint. Fruity fresh and a light kick behind out. I like it !

Soft, delicate. Be gentle with water, but generous with time in the glass. If you do not give this whisky any time, it is a huge disappointment, resembling grain whisky lightness, and no definition.
But allowing it to breathe in the glass for at least 20 to 30 minutes and this is a most beautiful lowland you will ever see.
    • Nose
No water: Damp cellar. Heat. Citrus. No sweets.
With water: Dry. Citrus, especially limes. Florally sweetness. Light.
    • Taste
      No water: -
With water: cautious arrival. Floral development towards citrus. Ending in Bladnoch vanilla custard.
    • Finish
      Long, warm, custardy finish.

Nice. A complex, full smell and taste. Falls a bit flat on it's face, though. Reminds me of Glenkinchie DE.

Blind tasting of a sample from Kay Meertens.
    • Nose
Pears, apples, grapes, sweet, creamy spicy.
    • Taste
Sweet, a bite initially, brown sugar, full, spicy, vanilla, caramel, some red fruit.
    • Finish
Not that long. Chocolate, red fruit, a bit bitter, sherry.

    from a purchased sample
    • Nose
Nice and clearly malty. It opens on a nice mixture of fruit, flowers,
and a touch of wax. Little strawberries and some apple. Over time, it's
more on tart apples and just a few drops of lemon juice. Definitely
grassy. Honey and crystallized fruit. A little linseed oil and
      graininess. Pleasant.
    • Taste
A bit flat. Not nearly as rich as the nose. More vanilla, sugar, malt.
Grassy, and the wood's strong. Trace of bitter flower petals and
thin/light oatmeal/grain. Limpid lemon. The wood gives off a subtle waxy
vibe, but it comes up short.
    • Finish
Some of the red fruit returns, and the wood gives way to more grain,
vanilla, and light toffee. It's a nice a pretty stereotypical Lowland
whisky. Nice, but doesn't have any 'wow' in it. The light sugar comes
off as artificial at turns, but not so much that it bothers me.

Classic Bladnoch profile on the nose: plenty of grass and hay alongside ripe orchard fruits (perhaps also a touch of something more exotic: mango?), vanilla and faint oak. A couple of drops of water made the grassy elements even more prominent. Peppery and grassy on the palate, with less of the sweet fruits or vanilla coming though. A touch dry towards the finish, and lacking the lovely creaminess I've found in some other similar age bottles. Excellent value for money for a 20yo OB! A much underrated distillery in my humble opinion.
