If you imagine a fatty steak that you just grilled on the coals and put a spoonful of plum jam on top of it, then this is our whisky. Our very good whisky! Now I want to buy a bottle.

I would say it's an Ardbeg.

Yes, yes, one can only guess... But I would immediately identify this bottling as a Lagavulin - the character is too similar to that of other heavy sweet wine aging from the Brühl whisky house.
[I tasted without adding water and let the whisky breathe for about 15 minutes.]

Intense and heavy on the nose, a fat, already oily smoke and dark-spicy fruit notes appear immediately after pouring, which remind me most of dried dates. As I let the whisky breathe, these initial flavor impressions settle somewhat - but remain distinctly present - and chocolate-covered gingerbread joins the nose. The whisky offers a very balanced interplay of sweet-spicy and smoky notes, which are characterized by the alcohol content of 53.9% vol. to be worn very well.
    • Taste
      90 90
On the tongue, the whisky immediately becomes pleasantly sweet and creamy. This is followed by the powerful, slightly medicinal, campfire-like smoke, carried almost perfectly by the alcohol. The smoke is always present, occupies the entire mouth and forms the framework for the other aromas. These are dominated by notes of dates and figs that are clearly but not too sweet. Cedar wood and even tobacco impressions take over the tongue and lead to a very long finish.
    • Finish
      89 89
The finish is pleasantly warming and persistently intense, characterized by increasingly lighter smoky notes and clearly lingering tobacco impressions. Even a slight sweetness can stay on the tongue. The oak is still clearly audible - but never in an unpleasant way.
For me, this is an all-round successful Islay south coast whisky, in which the PX cask worked very well and did not "paste up" anything. More about these prices (108.90 euros in July 2022) please!
