So long, so rich. Just great to enjoy. Amazing how after more than 50 years the nose is so different from other whisky, the body is far from oaky and the finish is so long at just 40%
    • Nose
Tasted during a great G&M tasting. After a little bit of nosing someone shouted; I can smell WEED And
yes indeed I could follow this marijuana scent, not just because I'm Dutch :). It
has a rich nose full of leaves, dried plants, moss and other forest stuff. Old antic books
    • Taste
      Nuts
and vanilla, very smooth. The herbal nose gets a bit more spicy from the oak,
but never dries. Some salty caramel. Lot's of
tea, dried fruits like peach and abricot.
    • Finish
Dried fruit, leaves and the forest herbal part lingers on.

    Undisclosed Glenfarclas

Oaky, grassy, hay, some dried fruits. It's got a lovely nose but, the mouth is alright but the finish is weak. I guess what's really fascinating about this whisky is that it is 50 + years old which you don't get very often.

Excellent glenfarclas? Toffee honey chocolate a touch of exotic fruits, candied cherries, figs, Christmas cake, very elegant.

Departure is definitely frighteningly weak, the nose the highlight, in the mouth somewhere in between. It really is nothing that skims a beat but is interesting to try out and has its special sides (oak and even more oak).
    • Nose
Old barn, pure wood cargo, very elegant, but much more you will not find next to the oak, a few nice nuts, hazelnut and walnut, some red apple, cherry in the background, dark chocolate, some old leather, later apricots with seeds and Cointreau (Orange liqueur), thyme, rosemary, oregano, fresh cocoa powder, even later a hint of vegetable, papaya, wild honey, etc.
    • Taste
Definitely more power than% in the mouth, as some write he is at least in the beginning (then he loses continuously) rather at almost 50%, also here pure oak enjoyment, who stands on it will have his bright joy, fresh red apple with shell, old malt , Book covers, parchment, pine nuts, orange peel, oregano, thyme, nettle tea, dried some grapefruit, camphor, ginger, some dark chocolate and cocoa powder, liquorice, cherry pits (but only the kernels)
    • Finish
Malt, apple peel, thyme, some tea, oak, dry, a bit bitter, unfortunately maximum medium

Nevertheless, he loses out back I think you should give him time and would rather refill later if you want to have the experience of the first sip again. For me anyway one of the better whiskys ... If I had to guess I would tap on Glenrothes or Glenlivet, but you will probably never know. Nevertheless, 92 points!
    • Nose
freshly poured: Nose: dark fruits, leather, a little bit of cocoa 20 minutes in the glass: Nose: WOW! I am standing in an old woodshed! Old books with leather bindings that have been years ago and are already threatening to merge with the wood of the shed. In the background still dark fruits and cocoa - but really only discreet.
60 minutes in the glass: Nose: The woodshed has burned down in the meantime, but the smell is still present - as if you were still standing in it. But now a light breeze is blowing ... He definitely needs time.
    • Taste
freshly poured: Insanely sharp onset, the 40% feel like at least 50% and more - the mouth gets dry and instantly shoots saliva. Cocoa, dark - really not bad 20 minutes in the glass: Mh, it does not happen - wait a minute, there it is again ... Jaaaaa, dark chocolate and I feel my light salt, which can not really be. Oranges mix with it and I almost think that I have bitten into a Aachen Printe - but only in a very small piece. Crazy! 60 minutes in the glass: Meanwhile, I find him a bit thin in the mouth - the sharpness of the first sip is gone, the many air does the nose well, but I think he loses out the back. Of course you can still taste the initial aromas, but for me it feels like you have a 3rd-fill-barrel here. Too bad, as the nose has gained more and more momentum.
    • Finish
freshly poured: first of all, what is that, why no finish, way too short - and then after 5 seconds - wood, wood, wood - I like it! 20 minutes in the glass: Clean! Now the wood presses full pot - a lot of wood, you notice the long storage 60 minutes in the glass: Long lasting as before, here you can feel the wood again, the dryness ...

Reminiscent of a really old Highland Park (but no one), only the smoke is a bit scratchy. Lots of citrus, cherries and strawberries, lots of honey, lots of chocolate, lots of herbs and a fine spice backdrop - excellent! And this intensity at only 40%.
    • Nose
fresh chopped herbs (parsley, thyme), orange liqueur, very fresh, grape nut chocolate, then dark chocolate sauce, camphor, mint, eucalyptus, old leather, sweet tobacco leaves, soft and sweet, rose petals appear, dark honey, vanilla, smoke , Cherries, strawberries mashed, stomach bread spices
    • Taste
The old malt burns immediately and uninhibited a true mandarin and lime fireworks, incredibly fresh, orange and mandarin liqueur, pastis! Then dark chocolate and some espresso and eucalyptus ... like a sparkling champagne, while silky soft in the mouth. That such an old malt can be so explosive and clinking in taste, amazing. In addition cherries, surprisingly clear strawberries, a lot of honey, sweet herbs, thyme, nice fine stomach bread spices, roasted hazelnuts, vanilla, caramel, all backed with very slightly scratchy smoke
    • Finish
Laaang, no, very long, lots of honey and vanilla, sweet herbs, smoke and fruity, tangerine, cherries and eucalyptus, light coffee notes, the sweet smoke remains the longest ...
