Fall under the late bottled category.
The 40.5% is just thin, no body, no trace of an aged whiskey and very one dimensional. There's also a hint of violets...is there some Bowmore in there?

What an experience! Wonderful complex interplay in the nose. The lavender impression hits the palate dramtically. Accompanied by the fine smoke, the result is a great whiskey that lives up to its age and will certainly not appeal to everyone. I bet there was a good amount of Bowmore in the 15-distillery blend as well.

Unusual beginning with hay, spices and honey. Oak, cardboard, vanilla, pineapple and fine smoke follow. Over time, lavender, raspberries, solvents, formalin.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet and soft, hay, smoke, then increasing lavender soap
    • Finish
      90 90
Long finish with massive lavender, plus smoke, oak, espresso, raspberries, slight bitterness, chocolate. Sufficient power.

A really interesting change of impressions. No dram for in between. You could almost think you have a Bourbon Cask Bowmore in the glass.

The sweet fruits dominate, lightly underlaid with a delicate smoky note. Very stimulating, but too subtle for a higher rating.
I find 2nd dram and the subtle one very good today. It doesn't overwhelm you, but invites you to enjoy it.

Now the smoke is in the foreground, something towards soot. Although I don't really like this, it's quite interesting here, after the previous nose.
2nd dram and now a sweet note resonates. A little fruity, a little perfumed.

This is where earlier impressions come together and result in a grilled pineapple. Very beautiful.
2nd dram and the pineapple has become a little more sour.

1st impressions . Lovely nose, old leather, eucalyptus oil, hint of smoke, all the expectations of a lovely old sherry cask . On the plate, Peat ..... weak... soot. disappointing , Not what I was expecting. It does improve with a bit of time. Will try this again in a few weeks. If I was blind tasting this I would of said this was an Islay whisky.
