Not the best a'bunadh, especially the nose was appaling. The finish was nice and more in balance.
    • Nose
Some off notes to start with: sweat socks and baby vomit. Then, tons fudge, too much for me. It's this buttery smell that makes me instantly sick. Behind this wall, there are nuts and oranges, and some new wood I would say.
    • Taste
Better than on the nose. Still some fudge, but more in balance. Pepper, ginger and orange scream louder. Next, some ground coffee, dark tea and nuts. Water doesn't help as it brings out the fudge again, and releases a bitter and tanninic side.
    • Finish
Pepper, dark fruits, oranges, tobacco. This is the best part if you ask me.

    • Finish

  8. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

not the best batch of abunadh!
    • Nose
Fruit, a lot, but not very expressive
    • Taste
powerful, makes me think of some young red wines
    • Finish
      long

  9. KayMeertens scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A tad 'darker' than its predecessor batch 34. Apart from that they don't really differ that much, it's basically the same notes in a different ratio. Great continuation of the range and what a remarkable smoothness at over 60%!
    • Nose
Raisin, dark cherry, cranberry, raspberry, mocha, dark chocolate, orange and almond. With water also some red apple.
    • Taste
Cranberry, raisin, mocha, dark cherry, prune, dark chocolate, apple syrup and orange. With a drop of water more apple.
    • Finish
Mocha, dark chocolate, espresso, raspberry and apple syrup.

  11. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

this one has the darkest color of the tasted batches
N: vanilla, fruity - wild peach, orange, saw dust, honey and mint - eucalyptus
T: leather, grape fruit juice, ointment and oatmeal - Brinta
F: ointment, spices and herbs - pepper and mint
    compared with batch #23, #26, #30, #31, #33 and #37

Round whisky, top. Seems very suitable as a digestive. Explosiveness is less, great wealth of taste. (You could add some water to it, to temper the alcohol and to spread the taste). Tastes of sherry, with caramel and other sweet fruits. Nice balance.
Smell: freshly mown hay, citrus, carnations
    Taste: fruit and sherry

    • Taste

  13. m884 scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Nose: Nutty, oloroso sherry, red berries, a bit oak, oranges, dark chocolate

Mouth: dry, sherry, oak, a bit grassy

Finish: sherry, more on the dry side, malaga raisins, oak, a bit nutty, a tad smoke

Comments: The best Aberlour in this tasting series so far, maybe not the best A`Bunadh batch I tasted so far (it lacks a little bit in complexity and depth), but still very good.

    • Nose
somewhat  prickly in the nose. sherry, raisins, chocolate, oak, musty warhouse/ attic, walnut bread (starch & nuts), a bit of smoke, some glue/UHU, faint salt, (86)
    • Taste
alc on the tip. chocolate, dried fruits, wood & wood chips, some salt, some faint rubber (86)
Later: the rubber seems to move to the fore and even spreads into the finish. (81)
    • Finish
salt again, some leather, more wood (brighter/younger & more solid here, no chips), quite long, but also much more alcoholic on the finish than what the palate suggested & even going towards anaesthetic (83)
Later: alc integrates better at the start of the finish, turns a bit sweeter & more compact/dense altogether (85)

I Love the power of Aberlour! It has great taste of sherry and fruits.

This also is a powerful scotch so I don`t recommend it to new whisky

users. It is good to gain a palate that recognizes the difference

between cask strength and some that are less ABV like 40% or 43%.

  17. Nethar did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

directly compared to batch 34 - this one was little bit worse for me
    • Nose
without water it was somehow sour, nuts, creamy liqueur. With water it opened itself - sweeter, fruity, vanilla. Heavy sweetness
    • Taste
creamy texture, wood, nice bitterness, nuts
    • Finish
wood, cocoa, chocolate (not so sweet)
