This is definitely not a dram for everyone, but I like it.
    • Nose
Caramel, roses, strawberry, cherry, plum, lime and peat.
    • Taste
Peat, toffee, cherry, plum and oil. Perhaps even some petrol.
    • Finish
      Peat, toffee, cherry and plum.

I believe this is a nice example of a whisky containing flavours not everybody is able to nose & taste. For me this is the second whisky (aside a sherried Glen Grant) I had difficulties to swallow and indeed here I didn`t. It resembles like urinal cake for me (sorry for the bad image).

I gave the bottle to a colleague at work who came back to me few days later and mentioned that she and her husband couldn`t drink this whisky either, but they had a friend who loved it....so this is where the bottle ended and did finally make someone happy

    As the ratings show, this
    will polarise.
I like it actually, then again I didn;t get any of the soapy-ness people seem to have a problem with, for me it was merely an unusual upfront bitterness.
    If you liked the flint-stoney
recent Longrow CVs for it's unusual taste, this is the same on
steroids + more sherry (if you don't get soap like me...)...
    • Nose

      flint
stones (bashed against each other) +, muddy/farmy/manure-y +/o,
freshly tanned leather (red) o, spicy sherry o, (dripping) meat roast
      fat o/-. (85)

    • Taste

      bitter
      peat ++, dark spices +/o. (85)
    • Finish

      less peat than in the
      palate o, redwine / tannins +/o, dark wood o, more spices +/o &
some cardboard o/-. Bitterness is much more extreme in the palate
      than in the finish. (83)

  7. Roman scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

actually great substance, except for the soap, but always better than the average rating of Base, I like such young vegetables
    • Nose
Peaty, dark chocolate, an extreme spiciness with a hint of fruit
    • Taste
nice peaty fruity and really spicy longrow, strong, you would accept CS, dark chocolate, the sherry fits well in but a little soapy
    • Finish
      medium
