Tasted after the 10yo Prestonfield, the 1972 Prestonfield 16yo and the 1969 DT Pearless.

The only one in barrel, so different. We gain in watts and power that we lose complexity and delicacy. Different but equally convinced.
    It's wonderfull.
    • Nose
      One more fruit bomb.
      Passion, pineapple, apricot, peach. Syrup.
Honey, almonds. Light, freshly waxed leather.
      Wood, camphor, slightly saline.
    • Taste
      In the mouth it's sublime.
The fruit is still there and well wrapped in camphor.
The wood is nobler and a hint of smoke is there.
      A little peat.
      Pepper. Espelette pepper.
    • Finish
Endless finale on the fruit, camphor, spices, salt.

Complex, balanced, tasty, expensive. Aaaaaah! More of that!
    • Nose
Fruity, spices, sea air, light smoke. Wonderfully balanced. Glorious. Looks very mature. After a few minutes, some sweet honey and a little caramel join. The spices are clearer to me a little warmth. With some water even gentler and rounder. Maybe some nut and resin.
    • Taste
Very round and voluminous. Very maritime here. The fruits and the sweet flavors that were still in the nose, are pushed back a bit. With some water even creamier and rounder. Do him well.
    • Finish
Somewhat sweet oak on the finish, still maritime slightly fruity and finally ... no smoke but spices, complex!

What moment ! It's hard to say, but maybe the best whisky I've ever tasted. Enthusiasm 5/5 (and even more?) Whisky n ° 1468
    • Nose
OH MY GOD ! Crème brûlée, honey and varnish, BUT BY TRUCK OF 38 TONNES! Waxed wood, generous fruits that complete the panorama. With a few drops of water - let's go soft - toffee, burnt wood, a milky side. What a slap! And I have not put anything in the mouth yet.
    • Taste
Honey and spices collide! (For lack of a better verb, not that one tries to take precedence over the other, but it is a true explosion of flavors) Everything remains of a great softness but with a relief at the same time unbelievable. Micro-trace of peat.
    • Finish
The sweet spices sparkle ... explode IN A FOUGH OF FIRE OF ARTIFICE seems to me more just, on reflection! With abundant fruits, which turn out to be completely exotic with a few drops of water. A lot of vanilla in the length.
The peat comes back only when the glass rinses, on the nose.

[November, 2002]  I had this dram during a Prof. Schobert "Islay" tasting at Rolandsbogen.

In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 92,5. My notes state an average blonde colour and no legs but a lot of late tears (oily texture at the glass).  The nose is very fruity (pears, currants and many more).  The mouthfeel is oily and creamy.  The body is sweet and fruity again with some spices added (peppers).  With water it gets even more balanced and smoother.  The finish is long and beautiful.
