Why did I rate this whisky 70 points? Because in a Cadenhead's tasting I only preferred it more than one whisky and preferred 7 others more. See the link in my profile for more information about my ranking and scoring system.

A 5cl sample from Cadenheads Cologne for 9 euros. Obviously a bourbon aging and unfortunately very simple.
Rarely have I bought really bad samples there, but unfortunately the really good whiskys are rarely bottled there as samples. 5cl of this whisky is definitely too much. I discard the remaining 2cl, which contains a lot of added water. Not because they're that bad, just because I want to skip the alcohol and choose something more exciting.

A light Cadenhead dejavu. A simple young bourbon maturation that's not too spicy at the 50+ percent, offers plenty of sweetness but doesn't excite. I find sweetness here, vanilla, kiwi, a bit of light oak in the background, sufficient intensity, but also noticeable alcohol. There is not much to complain about here for a 5cl sample. But unfortunately nothing at all to discover.

Although I generally like bourbon aging - even at this age - they are too often interchangeable with Cadenheads for me.

The nose tolerates 2 drops of water and then another 5 drops of water on the remaining 4cl.
But the water doesn't give or take away new aromas. On the contrary, the whisky becomes a little sharper and less round.
    • Taste
Slightly sharp on the palate with sweet oak again. Unfortunately not much else. The alcohol is then too present for the few aromas.
Luckily the dram takes a fair amount of water and then softens, but hey, for the money I'd rather buy a nice cognac or calvados with quality and exciting, fuller flavors.
    • Finish
The finish is boring and too spicy for me
