A little bit reluctant and one dimesnional on the nose but really not bad on the palate, quite drinkable - quite nice
    • Nose

Nutty, leathery notes, old wood, hay, cereals, spices, pepper, some vinous notes, little woody

Medium long, warm, fruity, honey, spice, leather

Sampled as part of an excellent online tasting by The Good Spirits Co, Glasgow.

Agree with others that this doesn't come close to being worth the money.
    • Nose
      87 87
Sulphur is the first impression, but it does die back to reveal a striking leather note alongside black treacle.
    • Taste
      89 89
Really earthy, with a gentle smoke. Salty, well-integrated, the treacle from the nose has morphed into maple syrup here.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Long, with the smoke increasing.

This Bunna has been finished on a calvados barrel since late 2019. The calvados certainly made its mark after almost two years of maturation. A pretty well executed finish, but not worth it's high price tag for me.
    • Nose
      88 88
Lightly peated, with sea spray and ozone. Sweet apples and peaches combine with olive oil and vanilla. The calvados is certainly there, or rather a farmy kind of cider.
    • Taste
      89 89
Fat and creamy, with the trademark Bunna saltiness. Green apples, lemons, mint and ginger give it an unexpected fresh edge, on a background of light peat. More oaky and bitter tones develop after a while.
    • Finish
      87 87
Pretty salty, lightly peated again. Dry spices follow, together with an oakiness that borders on wet newspaper. Sweet apples of the calvados are there again, giving it a fresh but dry finish.

Wow, this exceeded my expectations. The peat notes are a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. Every time I came back to this glass after tasting one of the other unpeated drams, the peat seemed to get stronger and stronger. Maybe this distillation run came right after a peated run? It’s not too appley, and has this phenomenal creaminess and subtle oiliness.
    • Nose
Fairly sweet and fresh. Caramel apples, yes, but also lemon zest, elderflower, and white cherries. Cocoa powder and allspice. Chocolate-covered macadamias, sponge toffee, and olive oil. …Wait a minute, there’s some peat here. Musty-nutty, prosciutto-esque, with black pepper and brine.
    • Taste
Medium texture. Arrives with honey, apples, lime, and some light brine. Creamy-buttery in the middle, then more surprise peat, musty oak, long-dead campfires, birch bark, underlain by green apple tartness and salted peanuts.
    • Finish
Medium-length. Creamy, earthy, and lightly salty. Hot cocoa with marshmallows. Apple crumble and honey. Cappuccino and birch bark.

You always expect a lot from Fèis Ìle bottlings. Can this Bunnahabhain finished in Calvados casks live up to expectations?
My opinion on this in the review. ????????⬇️
